I shot there last month with an assistant holding a softbox on a monopod. No problem whatsoever.

I just had a client ask me about shooting there and I told them I have heard varying things about photography. I thought it was $500 which I thought was rediculous enough. $1500 is obscene!

The Gaylord has an inhouse Photography company that I used to work for. Mostly, they shoot the ICE and kids with Santa and such. Last I heard though, they were wanting to break into the wedding biz. I am assuming they have something going on with the hotel which is the reason for the hughmongo fee.

I am not a professional... I am a hobbyist. Do you think they'd give me issues with my little D3000 LOL.

As long as you aren't running power cables, setting up light stands, or making a big production of the shoot, you should be fine. As I stated above, my last shoot there was two months ago with a client, an assistant, and a small softbox/flash combo on a monopod, and we always gave the right-of-way to the patrons. No problem.

That's what I was pretty much going off of. :)

I am taking a few maternity pics of my friend and a couple with her and her family. I have never been to the Gaylord. Do you feel there will be plenty of photo ops for this type of shoot?

I usually shoot natural light so I hope that's not an issue in there.

The issue at Gaylord is that all of the natural light comes from above, causing unflattering shadows on faces and subjects in general. I highly recommend fill flash or at least a reflector to eliminate this problem. If you still find it unbearable, there are some nice places outdoors where the light is more even.

I was there less than a week ago and shot a family and couple's engagement pictures and no one approached me. It was during the Alice in Wonderland theme. None of my pictures had people wandering around and when people saw me with my equipment, they paused and then walked off.

hope no one from the Gaylord reads this thread :)
