Dang, I didn't know you lived there! I go there A LOT to shoot. The old bartender dude is so cool. Also, the guy that runs the museum is awesome. Some of my favorite images and most requested ones (based on style) have come from Pilot Point.

Hmmm...I wonder if they serve a good chicken fried steak?

If I had my act together, I would sign up for a Tiger Shoot, and then hit the diner!

I know this response is late, but I stumbled into Farmers Branch Historical Park. Very cool spot. They have some old log cabins, a nice old church, and old gas station....really nice spot..I look forward to going back when I have more than 15 minutes to look around.

One thing not brought up is are you getting a signed property release for anything that is shot commercially? Also are you getting permission to shoot on the property if it isn't a commercial shoot- btw wedding shots are considerered commercial since you are being paid for the shoot- if you do get the release are you giving something in compensation (print or at least a $1) to close the contract?

I'm pretty sure the Farmers Branch Historical Park does have policies in place for shooting. I only mentioned it as it does have a very clean vintage gas pump area.

Another one is in Decatur. There is a lot of information on that one, on-line. I think the website is called Roadside America and it mentions it.

The parks mentioned above in Farmers Branch are awesome, but you do have to be a member to shoot there.

There is an old gas station that happens to be up for lease in old Plano... if you get on 15th and go east from 75, turn right immediately after the tracks into a brick parking lot... the gas station is on the far side (14th?) of the buildings... no pumps, but it does have a lot of possibility. If I lived in Plano, I'd consider renting it for a studio.

There is this one as well , it is not "clean" as it were but it has a really cool look.
It is in Deep Ellum

and if you look here I have mapped it
GulfStation_06 on Flickr - Photo Sharing!
check the lower right in the Additional Information area it has a map link there

Also there is this in Lancaster Tx, South of Dallas, it used to be a gas station but has been many things since.

I know it's been a while since anything was posted here, but thought I would mention for future. The one mentioned in Decatur is off of Business 287. It is an awesome Rock station with a hotel behind it. They were actually in Faith Hill's music video There You'll Be (about 1:30 into the video, it briefly shows the rock hotel but that's what it all looks like). Make sure to get some shots at the courthouse while you are there!

One negative about the Petrified Wood Station mentioned here is that there is frequently a modern PU truck parked there. The station must be the office for someone. I passed it once when a bunch of Model T owners wished to use it as a backdrop for pics. The truck owner finally moved the truck after several requests from the group, but only moved it a little ways away from the front of the station. Not far enough to be out of the pictures.

The man that owns the gas station in Decatur does not care if you shoot at the gas station, but he will not move his Lexus SUV for anyone. I was extremely nice and called his wife to ask for permission to shoot there and they gave it. Yet when I asked him if he could move his vehicle, he declined.

That's the one I was going to recommend - it's actually in downtown Dennison.

It's Peggy Sue's Diner.

Petrified Wood - 04-19-2012, 10:14 PM

There's an old petrified wood gas station in Decatur. It's a bit of a drive but totally worth it! So many great shot opportunities! Let me know if you want an example. I'll email it to you. (Don't want to post it because I just did bridals there and the bride hasn't gotten married yet. Would hate to risk the chance of someone seeing her dress!)
