Antique Gas Station Look - 08-22-2009, 01:11 PM

There is an area around Dallas that has this antique gas station look, but it is very shiny and clean looking. I saw the background in another photographer's photos, but she always posts comments on her myspace about people copying her work and won't tell anyone where the location is.

I am not trying to copy her work, but for the last year I have been looking for something similar, but can only find really dirty and run down spots.

I thought that photographers shared ideas and stuff to help each other get better at what they do, but I guess not all photographers.

I'd love to know the answer to that as well, Diana. I'm of the same opinion you are on sharing ideas. I don't see how a location is copying, if you are using your own techniques, subjects and composition. Hopefully that's not wrong.

Are you familiar with the one in Waxahachie?

How about this one? If you are interested, let me know, and I will try to remember the town lol. I know it's near Sherman, off of 75.

Jeff- I am not familiar with the one in Waxahachie...do you have an idea where in Waxahachie it might be?

Leslie - I love that! I would love to know where that one is if you can remember :)

Andres - Salado is a little far for normal shoots, but my grandparents actually there...I have been meaning to get down to see them - maybe I will have to take my son's pics there.

Great place, they have a quaint little park, with a running creek / stream...but others of great places there.

Jeff - that sign is awesome with old wooden background...now I need to think about heading down there and get some shots! First one there to get the shots, gets a Dr. Pepper on Abel! LOL

It's right near the downtown square. It think it has old Sinclair signs.....only problem is that it appears to be a working used car lot so one would be somewhat limited with shooting options. It's pretty cool though with the old 40s era pickup truck parked by the pumps. I'll try to remember to post a picture later when I get on my home PC.

I always want to stop when driving to the Austin area....but my wife is not a big fan of my "photo stops". I do my best when driving solo.

There is a small clean station in Grapevine on NW Hwy, just a few blocks west of Main St. but there is usually a late model PU parked by the old time pumps.

Cool! I figured it out. It's in Denison. It's on a street that runs vertical to the main street that the old style movie theater is on. Also, even better, the streets are brick or cobblestone. This particular place is actually a 50's style restaurant. We wanted to shoot inside, but it was already closed by the time we got there. I don't think Denison has that many main streets, so it should be easy to find. If I figure out the name, I will post it here.

Love Google...lol! Here it is: http://www.chambermaster.com/directo...=252&memid=590. It's called Peggy Sue's Parlor on Chestnut St.

Now, if you want an old one that is no longer operational, let me know. I can hook you up with that, too.

Pilot Point? Seems I remember you having some nice ones from there.

I've shot the one in Pilot Point a number of times - it's handy since I live in Pilot Point. One shot got used in the liner notes of a CD and is highlighted by the artist at their studio. One of my favorite spots. Matter of fact the entire square in Pilot Point is excellent.

Dang, that is a long drive for me. BUT, they serve 16 different flavors of Blue Bell Ice Cream so I guess that ain't so bad.
Hmmm...I wonder if they serve a good chicken fried steak?

If I had my act together, I would sign up for a Tiger Shoot, and then hit the diner!
