Looking for Vintage/WWII Era Locations in DFW - 10-02-2009, 03:21 PM

I've got a pre-deployment shoot coming up in February, and the client specifically wants locations & editing to resemble old wartime photographs.

Right now all I can think of would be a downtown area somewhere, with like a soda shop or beth marie's in downtown Denton. That or along a river or canal - somewhere timeless. Any other ideas are welcome! We can go anywhere in the greater DFW area. Thanks!

The Train Museum at Fair Park (soon to be in Frisco) might have some vintage train/passenger cars. The idea is to replicate shipping off via train. A kiss in the vestibule, a wave from a window, etc, etc, etc.....

Great idea. There is also the flight museum at Addison Airport or the Pate museum. Both have WWII planes.

Wow....I had no idea that place was still open to the public. Used to have sleepovers in the railcar with the YMCA Indian Guide Program in the late 60's.

Over in the Deep Ellum Exposition Park area you have a few buildings that have been properly restored that still reflect the look of the 1940's and many supplied materials or even bombs during the war (sorry none that I know of made plane parts). So drive up and down Canton, Commerce, Elm, and even Main and also Exposition in the area and you may find the right look for a background. (can't think of a Cafe in the area with the right look right off the top of my head).

The train thing may be good but getting access into a car that has been at least semi-restored may be harder than it sounds. What about the Uptown Trolleys as a background?

If they are in the military you could go to NAS/JRB where my husband is stationed in Fort Worth. They have some old airplanes. It would be cool to take some pictures by the hangers if you could get close...

Downtown Grapevine has a historic train depot, operating trains, static train displays (and even a sculpture depicting a solider hugging a loved one).
