They have a neat little downtown area that has some neat photo ops. I have a really cool picture from over there by a hot pink painted wall that is the outside of a Mexican food restaurant. We went to a REALLY cool park over there too that has some baseball fields but there is a playground and this really beautiful pond area with ducks and a fountain. I cannot remember the name of the park though. It wasn't far from downtown.

Just Google "park that Shelley went to" I'm sure it will pop up.

Haha, you know, that's not too far fetched! I did a shoot in Louisiana during Katrina, and I needed the last name to identify a lady I shot that was helping people there. I did a search for the small town (she was actually from California and came down to help) and California and her first name. I found her!! It's amazing what you can find on the internet!

Roanoke is a pleasant little town. On a weekend, it might be more crowded during mealtimes because of Babe's Chicken Dinner House. If you can scout the area before meeting them, check out some of the side streets, too. Neat historic buildings and houses around. See if there's anything in particular that the family might want to show.

I don't live too far from Roanoke and after reading this post...I hightailed it up there. Just to scope it out. Pretty much after you pass the apartment buildings there are a ton of different textures, doorways, rustic walls etc. The photo op locations pretty much span that short stretch down 377 towards 114.

There's also a park with a small lake in Roanoke, but I've not been there. Babe's is a good place to eat if you're really hungry; I also like Prairie House out on 377.
