Indoor locations in FW? Museums? - 11-09-2009, 02:55 PM

hello! i have a photo shoot scheduled for this weekend in fort worth, but need a back-up plan in case it's rainy or wet. i thought maybe the kimball art museum, as museums usually have lots of great light. any other suggestions for an indoor back-up in the downtown FW area?

TIA!

I once moved an outdoor session to inside the convention center to get a reprieve from the heat. The lighting was horribly mixed (tungsten from the fixtures, daylight from the windows, and the light from the flash) so I had to convert all the images to b&w. Would I recommend it? No.

Most art museums will not allow you to take photos inside. Kimball will let you outside, but not inside unless something has changed recently.

Nothing has changed. Museums don't want cameras period.
They certainly don't allow commercial photography without prior approval.

In the event of rain.. reschedule.... or shoot in the rain.....it's fun.

If worse comes to worse go to the stockyards and there is plenty of covered area there where they won't bother you about taking photos so long as you don't roll up your equipment truck and bus load of grips.

The last time I visited a few of the downtown FW museums, the lighting was great on the exhibits and horrible on everything else. It is my understanding as well that cameras are not allowed inside but the outdoor grounds are welcoming. The Stockyards, as Tom mentioned, is an alternative "indoor" spot with lots of possibilities.

Do you think that the Convention Center needs a permit in the same way that the Water Gardens needs a permit? Or is it one and the same?

Probably. I just wasn't aware of it at the time. Best to call and check.

The stockyards is my most common request of locations. It's free, provides great textures and the families usually stay and hang out after we are done. Kids love seeing the horses, cows, etc.

It's a win for all... Here are a few of my sessions to give you an idea and there are still plenty of areas I haven't covered.
