Looking for old warehouse/industrial building, preferably deserted in the Dallas area - 11-26-2009, 08:23 PM

Hello,
I'm new to the DFW area and I'm looking for some old buildings or warehouses (preferably abandoned and accessible inside) for some automotive photography.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Seriously, no suggestions? No ideas? I moved to TX area a month ago and I'm still looking. I'm not lazy and I wanted to leverage on some of the Dallas's folks local knowledge.
Thanks.

Really the more "safe" places to do this type of shoot were all rehabed in the last 10 years (Deep Ellum and West End) so to find that type of location you will need to go into places that just are not safe unless you are shooting the SWAT team with your cars. (this is not a joke-the few areas are just that bad).

I would suggest looking at some of the smaller outlying cities- ie north of McKinney or south of I-20 for an old building that has been abandoned and then ask around as to who owns the property.

I know of a huge abandoned industrial building - it is posted as no trespassing - I am trying to find the owners to discuss leasing it for photography - will let you know if/when I have any luck...

You could also make friends with a real estate agent who handles warehouse space and maybe get something set up.

I don't know anyone who owns commercial property like you are looking for. LightTec may have a studio that is large enough to get a car in - I'm not sure about that. They rent out studio time. Give them a call - Miguel or Scott - nice guys to deal with. Don't know if that is exactly what you are looking for, but at least it's a start if your other lead doesn't pan out.

Great idea. I need to ask around my small circle of realtor's connections.

Thanks Kevin, I appreciate it. Let me know if I can help in anyway make that negotiation easier.

Didn't know about them. Will check on the rental. I do want to practice shooting cars in studio for some of the "classic" and collectors vehicles.

Thanks for the suggestion.

there is a building in downtown ft worth in the stockyards that would make a good backdrop and you can SAFELY shoot from the street and still get the run down dilapidated industrial buildings in the background. it is the old swift armor plant.

Thanks Cynthia.
Do you know if we can drive up into inside or near the building structure itself?
From the panoramio link you attached, it looks like it but I thought I'd ask in case you've been there.

This building is completely fenced in and is also a booby trap. Very dangerous.
No access unless you jump the fence.
A prison TV show was filmed on the property.
