rail road track and trains - 04-29-2010, 05:36 PM

I'm looking for a location in Ft. Worth to do some engagement shots with trains and tracks or old buildings with some color. Any suggestions would be great. Sorry if this question has already been answered - I did read a million threads but not an answer besides the stockyards.

Since it is a federal felony to be on railroad property, I cannot be a party to helping you break the law.

Apparently you missed the million on here that address Don's issue. You might find something like an outdoor train museum. Frisco has an historic area, but I don't know enough about it and that's a haul for you. Good luck and welcome.

The RR Station in Grapevine would be the ideal place for you. Check it out.
The normal 'Big RR Company Rules' are generally overlooked there since they are primarily a tourist RR and Very accommodating to the general public. The track at Grapevine belongs to the 'Ft. Worth and Western RR', and not the "BNSF" or "UP", both of which are very unaccommodating to tresspassing, as previously mentioned.
Sunday Mornings would be best. I often see apparent photo happenings going on there around their buildings and RR equipment at that time.

Yes, I was going to say the stockyards is ideal. In fact, they have a guy there that works with the photographers to make sure everything is done safely. He will open up some of the vintage trains for you to shoot in too.

You might also go to the Steam Train Museum, I think that is what is called, over in Fair Park in Dallas. They have some cool stuff over there. They are in the process of moving that entire "rolling museum" to Frisco, if they can ever get enough $$$ to do it.

+1 for Grapevine. The historic downtown area alone is worth looking into ... lots of vintage buildings and interesting textures (although my favorite building was painted not too long ago ... major fail!).

Across from the Grapevine Depot on Main Street there are unused rail spurs (inactive tracks) and older cars that are great for using for photographs.

I believe Don meant State Felony, not Federal. And it's only a State Felony if you being on the tracks causes bodily injury. Otherwise is a Class B Misdemeanor.

Just clarifying, but it's a good idea to stay off the tracks. Find some fake or inactive ones, they look just as good.

The Frisco area with tracks is off limits. Last summer there were people taking nude photos in broad daylight so now all the local business owners call the police when they see photographers out there. A client and I were asked to leave when we shot there last October.

It's definitely a misdemeanor... not a felony, unless someone suffers bodily injury. And it's definitely state-level, not federal. Just had to clarify. It's a pretty big difference.

I just shot some pics in Frisco last weekend on the tracks that were active. I think the train comes in later in the morning..we just did it early. Didn't know it was against the law. Ooops!
