Grapevine / keller Area - 05-13-2010, 11:41 AM

I am planning on shooting outside on Sunday in Grapevine but the weather is stating 30-40% chance of rain. In the case with rain, any thoughts on semi indoor or covered area's for shots? Taking a rain check will be tough since the subject lives out of town. Id rather get a few shots in vs nothing.

I have lighting, but can minimize if we move indoors/ semi covered.

The old train station in downtown Grapevine has that covered area but it's not terribly wide. Heavy, blowing rain would likely get you wet. That station is a great place for portraits.

Bear Creek park (in Keller) is a great location for outdoors... and it has a large covered pavilion that you could take advantage of because it is centrally located in the park... so any direction you shoot will have a different background.

If you have to shoot inside, the Gaylord Resort is a great indoor place. I recommend using minimal lighting equipment if you end up there. Probably a small soft box w/flash would be ok.

But you can't just walk into the Gaylord and start shooting... I believe you have to call and fill out a form or two. (I think).

That's possible now. The last time I shot there was a senior session last year with a girl and her father. I used minimal lighting equipment, which didn't draw attention. However, they probably have changed their rules some as other places have.

Turns out, at the Gaylord anything that needs a stand, plugs in for additional lighting etc the charge is $1000 and up. On camera flash is free.

Thanks for verifying. That's what I thought. I was using off-camera flash w/diffuser and a reflector so there was no problem.

Hi all, I work there. Here's the official ruling. If you are shooting with any equipment that could obstruct guest, changing clothing for different shots, or wearing a wedding dress or something of that nature, you will have to call ahead of time and pay the $1500 fee.
