Indoor location near Carrollton? - 10-10-2010, 11:14 AM

Hello all! I have a family portrait session scheduled for tomorrow (Monday, 11th) and am now looking for a possible indoor location in case of rain. It is a family of 4 adults and a teenager. The hitch is that the mom's health is not great, so I need to limit the amount of walking etc.

The original plan is to use a nice park close to their home in Carrollton, but with the threat of rain in the forecast, I'm on the hunt for a place they won't get wet, if needed. And I did ask about just using their home, but it is in the middle of being remodeled, so they (understandably) don't want to use it.

Unfortunately, I hardly ever shoot indoors for family portraits, so my list of indoor spaces is very small. Any suggestions?

Mel, did you see this thread? It's in Plano but the indoor school house photos that were posted show some nice possibilities. That'd be cute. Plus it has outdoor stuff if it's not raining. Shouldn't be much walking.

I know of some hotels, but I don't think it'd be terribly fun for a family and nothing specifically in Carrollton - I rarely shoot in that area!

Oh - my other idea would be finding a colorful ice cream or frozen yogurt shop. I shot in a pacugio (sp?) once for a pair of sisters and I thought it was cute, especially if you want to do some lifestyle stuff.

Hey Brandi!

I didn't look at that particular thread, so thanks for pointing it out! The Heritage Farmstead Museum looks like a great possibility!!! But they're closed on Mondays, so I'll have to keep that one in my back pocket for another time. :(

Yeah, I'm just having SO much trouble coming up with something that will work for this family! I did consider a coffee shop....so I may run that (or your idea of an ice cream place) by them to see how they feel about it.

Thanks. :)

For those interested, I did end up finding a place in Carrollton that looks pretty promising!! I'm unable to use it for my shoot today b/c they close too early, but it might work for other sessions!

It is the A.W. Perry Homestead Museum
1509 N Perry Rd
Carrollton, TX 75006-6122
(972) 466-6380

City of Carrollton, Texas : Museum Grounds and Photography

I talked to someone there and they charge an annual fee of $75 for the use of their grounds. I think that's a pretty good deal if you are going to use it multiple times during the year!

Hi Melanie!

What was the place in Grapevine you found, if you don't mind my asking?

Thanks,

Melissa

Well, it wasn't actually an indoor space. It is a rather nice covered pavillion at the Grapevine Botanical Gardens. But as it turned out, the weather was beautiful so it was all worry for naught!!! :)
