yes they are at Fair Park. I would do a search for weddings at Discovery Gardens Fair Park to see pics taken there. We haven't shot there, but I do like the gardens. There is a fee to shoot there though (at least for bridals, so you should check) - the best part is the architecture of Fair Park next to it - I like shooting there too.

I really like the Texas Discovery Gardens. They have a butterfly house. They do not have a huge amount of species however it is very wide open and usually not very crowded. I have spent several hours in there and been the only on in there. I also like out in the gardens because I am a macro shooter and there are usually lots of bugs on the flowers out in the garden. There is a pond and a large fountain as well. Plus fair park is a great place to walk around and take architecture photos.

Yeah I was thinking of going out there to shoot some BF's and whatever else I may like. Just curious if anyone had been there before. sdenmen I don't think they charge extra if you want to photograph though, I know there is a fee to get in, in general. I think I will go out there in the next week or two.

I just went Saturday. The fee is $8. There was a birthday party of kids and a handful of other photographers, plus a hippy guy running the butterfly part that is very knowledgeable! haha But there was still plenty of space to walk around. On the upper part of the butterfly house you might have to wait for someone to walk past though!

There were lots of butterflies fluttering about. I partially wanted to burst into song, Snow White style, but I figured I'd try to avoid scaring the children. :)

The gardens are beautiful... a little more natural looking than the arboretum if that makes sense. There is a fountain, a couple of ponds, a rose garden, but the day I went it was so hot that they were a little wilted. I'm sure they will be more perky if it wasn't ridiculously hot. Like a previous poster said, I saw lots of different critters in the garden. Squirrells, a big frog in the water, a bright green tree frog on a leaf, bees, moths, butterflies, dragonflies, and I wasn't 'looking' for critters, so I'm sure there are lots more if you're looking. There are lots of nice little photo spots, plus there are some good ones right outside of the discovery garden too including a pond that has turtles and ducks. You have the opportunity to get some nice shots of the Texas Star. (Ferris Wheel) This is also within walking distance of the automotive museum/exhibit, an aquarium, etc. so there are some neat opportunities there too.
