Question Awesome places to shoot in McKinney?

I'm new to the DFW and know basically nothing about McKinney, but I'm going to be in the area next week and wanted to know of any awesome photo ops!

Please don't post awesome things that are not in McKinney... I'm really just looking for photo ops strictly within McKinney :)

(I particularly love open fields and grunge.)

    Thank you!

Chestnut Square. Daughter was married at the church there. Some old homes and artefacts. Wide angle lens may be helpful.

    The adjacent farmers market:

Thank you..... however I should have mentioned that I'm planning to do a photo shoot while I'm there, and those places are great for casually walking around with a camera on a Saturday but I'm really thinking old buildings, brick walls, graffiti, or an open field with flowers or tall grass... maybe you know of anything like that?

I am consigned to being a drive by and photo type. I miss those sites not readily visible from my drivers seat. As for as tall grass and flowers I can't advise.

Wheat fields here in Plano are starting to come up, wheat is not tall. There are large farmed fields off 75 north just north of McKinney which may be of interest. I think the crops are wheat, corn and sorghum but not certain.

Here on TPF are Adriatica threads of interest to mostly professionals.

First, those ARE places to do photoshoots.. But perhaps just not the style you're looking for. I'm not sure if you're aware, but you are coming off a little rude in your communication. Perhaps that's not what you mean, but you are.

There are plenty of alley ways and etc in downtown McKinney. I like to start at Church and Louisana and walk East..Just poke your head down the alleys and you'll find cool stuff. If you go all the way down Louisana past McDonald/5 there is an old Mill and a couple of sets of railroad tracks. One is active, but one is half buried and no longer in service.

One who is intending to be rude does not start the sentence with "Thank you"! lfmerrel did not seem to catch this vibe, so I am not concerned. Because I don't like to look like a fool, I personally avoid accusing others of uncouth behavior unless it is my place, I know the person, or I am certain, the former of which is something you cannot be on the internet without the use of swear words, capital letters, or a lack of "Thank you".

    Thanks lfmerrell:)

The Cotton Mill will fit the bill if your looking for that grunge vibe, as will the alleys and such Brandi mentions in old / downtown McKinney. If you a ton of variety without having to walk around a lot hit up the Cotton Mill. $100.00 for 2 hours, but be sure to contact them in advance for the forms.

And you just cemented my view of your attitude. lol. I wasn't attempting to be rude, just giving you a view of the way you were coming across. Not to mention I gave you input on exactly what you were looking for. Don't burn bridges when you're new to an area.

    Girls, Girls, Girls

Don't you hate email, blogs, and forums because of the difficulty in determining attitude, mood, or feelings.
The English language is not very good at communicating tone. Some ancient languages did this very well but not modern languages. Someone needs to invent "punctuation" that shows mood for email, forums, and blogs.
I am ALWAYS misinterpreted in my writing of being cold and hard. Oh well.

I didn't see an attitude in Shauna's first post. I did see a little in her second post.
Brandi I saw a little attitude in your post about attitude, and a lot in your next post.

Maybe you both will see an attitude in MY post.
    Please, lets get along better.

    ***** Rant Over*****

Shauna, like Brandi said there are some very nice spots East of the town square along the streets and alleyways. The Cotton mill is nice but it costs.
    - Why don't you come over 3 or 4 hours early to drive around and find your own location. There are some areas I use for a grunge effect.
    - Go to Goggle street view and "view" the area from a car's viewpoint, which will give you some ideas of what it looks like.
    - Send me a PM and give me your phone I will call you and try to be a help.

I know --- I really hate it when people pick fights when they could just choose not to participate. It scares away the others who may offer helpful information!!!

    Thank you MicWayWal! :)

For sure the Cotton Mill. My wife and I got married there in December, and we just happened to stumble upon it due to me looking for somewhere to shoot at. I truly believe it will meet all your requirements. The M Group there is a design firm where we got married, and the also have a photography group called "Clicks" that has exhibitions there every so often if you are interested. Just get with Bryon there.

I wish you luck and hope you find somewhere suitable to shoot.

Just an fyi, the Cotton Mill is now $75/hr with a 2 hr minimum, and everyone has to sign waivers or the photog has to have liability insurance and add the Cotton Mill as additional insured. Also, all forms and payments must be received in advance of the shoot. The couple that runs M Group is awesome, but if you book M Group, you still have to book the Cotton Mill if you want to shoot outside of M Groups space and pay for both.

Thanks Leslie, been awhile since I have been over there so I did not realize they had raised the rate. Is Darla still there?

No problem! I thought I had heard that they had, but I just got in contact with them earlier today to do a shoot there. Yes, Darla is still there.
