Don't know if you're still looking for such things but you should take a full day and do some driving along 35 North. You'll find abandoned houses dotting the highway along the way particularly from about 20 miles south of the TX/OK border to up into OK itself. The casino right past the border also has a small abandoned house sitting in the middle of a very small wooded area next to the hotel... be careful though. I went into this house(no front or back door) and I got a very strong feeling it wasn't so abandoned. One door on the far side of the entrance cracked open about an inch and I got the odd feeling I was being watched. Subtle evidence that someone was using the place too. Got some great shots of the outside though. Keep your eyes open as you drive along 35. I can immediately think of at least 4 "abandoned" homes along the way right off the highway. I use " " there because you just never know who's taking up temporary residence in these places.

There is a large two story abandoned decaying home just west of Honey Grove as I recall.

Took this one there:

Is there public access, or would I be trespassing?

There's one here: (there's only some construction around on the adjacent property... ) but it's gated (I've shot here many times without a problem - but it is technically trespassing - FYI)

Stephene, you can drive right up to the peanut mill and there is a parking lot right next to it (...off to the left of the picture). There are no signs and there seem to be a number of people about. We stopped there on a Sunday morning about 9:00 Am and there were other photographers doing people shots there...

If you have a GPS, look for: 236 E Plum St,, Aubrey, TX

Something to consider for old but not abandoned is Chestnut Square in McKinney.
Youngest daughter had her wedding in the church and reception in the Dulaney House opposite. The bride dressing Odin a house owned by a member of the James family.
I would date the period as +. /- 20 years from 1900

You might talk to the folks at the Collin County Farm Museum, and ask if they have any leads on old or abandoned farms there in Collin County.

Another way to get leads might be to talk with some of the old-timers who hang out and drink coffee at Bill Smith's Cafe.

I lived in McKinney from 1987 - 2003, before moving to Houston for a job, so it's been awhile since I drove around on the county roads up there.

Take Care,
David Baldock

Thanks for this recommendation!
I ended up with a couple of hours free time today and headed up there and got some great photos. There was actually a guy who apparently moved in there...had a little trailer. He was nice and let me take his picture as well. I liked how this one turned out.
