The Parking Garage for the Lou or is it Lew Sterret Jail which has been described in this thread, directly across from AA Center is a good place to get a few shots of downtown, I went on a Sunday I think and it was basically closed. I drove in and, thinking this was all good ran up took some shots only to find that I could not get out, really stupid. I did manage to drive - Out the In - as it were, because the gate that lifted for me earlier was positioned just so, I found could get around, and go over the curb just a little bit.

One of those Shots Here

More Downtown Parking Garage Locales - 05-07-2010, 05:01 PM

This image came from the parking that sits right next to AA Center
I went on a Saturday when nothing was happening and I managed to stay up there like two hours and never saw or heard from anyone about being there.
I dont know if this is still the case, but I have tried to go back but I have had a spate of bad timing it seems to be in use and I cant get in without paying, no big deal but its a lot easier to shoot when the parking lot is empty.

Pretty good location

Old post I know but I'm replying 'cuz I know this area well. It's same location I shot mine in stupid high winds several years ago.

Look for the intersection of N Beckley Ave & W Comstock St. There's a shop called Atlantic Motors, behind that shop is were you'll commonly find this shot taken.

If it's accessible, you could also take Perimeter Rd between I-30 and W Commerce.

Either way you'll find this shot there.

There really is a much better vantage point. Ask David Cantrell (dmcantrell) for the details. We went down there not too long ago. Here are the results of one of those vantage points:

... moon was taken on same night but added to this image. This is the only version of this image I have while I'm at work. The actual panorama is over 7-and-a-half feet wide (without the frame).

I took this from the south levee of the Trinity River. I would not suggest trying this at night due to safety concerns.

I parked in the parking lot of Oak Cliff Mirror and Glass after receiving permission from the establishment. I walked through their parking lot and into the jungle area behind their facility. I had to cross a small creek, so bring some shoes that you don't care about. Once over the creek, I waded through the high grass and up onto the levee for the shots. I never had to cross any fences, and there were no prohibiting signs that I could see.

@Regina: Click on this link and then there will be a map on the right... click on that and you'll see exactly where Mr. Cantrell took us to get that shot.

Please be careful. When I was inside Oak Cliff Mirror and Glass talking to the employees about using their parking lot, I asked them about the activity at night. They reacted very strongly, and said that there are quite a few homeless individuals -- some with weapons -- that live down there behind their place. She said that they have had problems with them confronting their glass vendors who park in their lot overnight to make a early-morning delivery.

I would. What I really want to do is talk my buddy, with his jeep, into taking a drive with me and we could just go off roading to get to a nice spot and also be easier to escape trouble.
