Has anyone had good luck getting pix at the old Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells? And are there other good photo ops in the area as well?

My understanding is that the property is fenced, locked, posted.

Lightbulb Rocks? - 03-18-2008, 01:19 PM

If you're into rocks and/or rock climbing, Lake Mineral Wells State Park has 'em both.

Baker hotel opens once a year during...

I think it's the "Crazy Water Festival" maybe... July? I'm sure you can find the dates and name online. During the festival they take tours through the hotel from top to bottom unless there has been some structural change in the last couple of years.

That's Tom speaking in code. What he means is:
Send a PM to this guy(Dokk)and ask him about the Baker. Dokk has done a few shoots there in the past.

Last I heard, this was no longer happening. Until the safety of the guests could be guaranteed by the owner. Since the owner refuses to have anything to do with the building, his silence cause the town of Mineral Wells to close it up until something comes over the owner and he starts well.. taking ownership of the situation.

Anyhow, it's possible to get in. Just don't get caught. My friend and I got busted about halfway through the basement. If it hadn't been for the caretaker being a super nice guy, we probably would've gone to jail.

I have some shots of it posted at the following from last June:

Here's a link to some pics I did in there thanks to Dokk. I've heard, as well, they are no longer letting people in though.

It's closed up tighter than a virgin at a frat party.

I know about 4 months ago my sister, her then husband and my brother went there and managed to go through the entire place without getting caught. They did it in the middle of the day which impressed me.

I know for me personally I would love to get some pictures of even just the outside of it without the fence being in my shot.

You can try that if you want but the Mineral Wells Police Dept. Keeps a pretty close eye on the place and they will arrest and detain you for trespassing. You'll end up with fine but I know of two people that were held a day or so until a Judge was available to levy the fine. They are really mean about it for some reason.

Last I heard was that a lady named Jayne Catrett was still managing the property. She'll most likely charge to get in if she lets you in at all. She's very proud of it and will tell you almost everything there is to know about the place. The Baker was sold to a new owner in the last year or so so I'm not sure of the status anymore. Jayne is in Mineral Wells. You can call her and find out but good luck getting hold of her. Last time I called I left a message on her voice mail and she called back about 3 weeks later.

Good Luck

That would be the reason I did not go with them. I am terrified by stuff like that and prefer to go through the correct channels. I know how hard it is to get such stuff put together involving the Baker Hotel so I haven't really made any effort to go after it.

Does anybody know about just shooting outside of it - is it fenced off/safe/legal enough not to get arrested just to shoot out around it? I am shooting a wedding in Weatherford in September, and it's not too far from the Baker hotel.. thought it'd be fun to take the B&G over there perhaps.
