I just also wanted to say that I contacted the Parks Department, and this was the response:

There is no charge for taking photos in the Garden

The fall colors were so beautiful out there too last weekend! Although this rain and cold may have affected it by now.

You might want to verify that. Within the last year, I contacted Grapevine regarding professional/commercial photo shoots at the botanical garden, and I was told there was a $75 fee. The last time I was there, I saw a sign at the gate that stated the same thing. However, there is no fee for personal/non-business photography.

That is my understanding as well. I was there a few months ago (by myself taking random macro shots) and the sign is still posted. Because there are events there, and the Grapevine gardens are small, they require scheduling in advance to avoid having several pros doing sessions all at once. This is also why I was told the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens has the same fee/scheduling-type policy.

There are no fees to enter the garden and take as many personal photos you want, as long as an event (such as a wedding) isn't going on.

If interested, I have a photo of that sign at the beginning of this thread!

Permit at Grapevine Botanical Gardens - 07-22-2010, 04:25 PM

I know this is an old thread, but it is one of the first sites that came up when I was searching "Grapevine Botanical Gardens and permit". I just called and spoke with a lady who said that commercial was defined as: making something for an advertisement, a commercial, paying people to be photographed, etc. Which is NOT doing someone's family pictures, for profit or not. Interesting, I thought! So anyway, we'll see how far that gets me at my photoshoot there this Saturday!

I was looking at the site, from the link posted in the beginning of the thread. There was a brief mention about photography, and an email contact name. I did email her, and her response was that there were no permits required, nor any fees charged for professional photographers to come in to do portrait photography.
