Bluebonnets - 03-08-2009, 09:55 AM

Since the Bluebonnets ARE wildflowers I thought I would post this thread so that when we find patches throughout the DFW area we can other know. Sometimes they are hard to find and it may help keep our calendars book!

I have a spot on the other side of Dallas that I need to check out next weekend. Even though it was a bad season for wildflowers last year, I ended up with some good shots. I'll try to find one of the images from the shoot.

I saw our first batch near some train tracks off I-20 and I think it was near Main St in Duncanville.

There is usually a very good batch on 114 @ Kirkwood Blvd. But I haven't seen them yet. I travel that road every day and I am breaking my neck just to see!

Last year I found a great wildflower spot just about a mile from the house with bluebonnets, paintbrushes & primrose. Went by there this morning to check on them and the whole area was dug up & a backhoe was sitting in the middle of MY wildflower patch. I understand that road & utility construction has to go on, but couldn't they have went around MY flowers or better yet, wait until after the season.

I have not found a good patch way out west here yet. Still looking for one. Been thinking about making my backyard one, but the no mowing until July with little kids and possible snakes... maybe in a few years.

This is old news, now, but a vacant field at the corner of Breckinridge and Shiloh Road in Richardson has acres of bluebonnets. They are starting to go to seed, though, and the flowers are showing signs of wear if looked at closely.

I am really late for bluebonnets but every year you can find huge fields of bluebonnets on spur 408 in Dallas and some on I20 near spur 408.

I haven't seen any bluebonnets anywhere in several weeks. The field that I mentioned previously went completely to seed more than a month ago, and now is mown.
