I have a family session coming up and they are wanting to do some portraits outside in Frisco. I know of Central Park, but anything else. They have an 8 yr old and a 3 month old. Any suggestions will help.

Thankyou,
Janie

Hi Stacey, off of Main St, there's a large shopping center area with tunnels that have great light. It's next to the library. Up the street from there is the Babe's restaurant and there's some sort of musuem too. Anyway, next to the restaurant there are some fantastic spots that a toddler can run around and some very cool walls. Here's a link to a session I did there last year. Just don't judge my inability to check my WB or sharpen for web. I've learned much since then. :) The first photo is from the shopping center, the rest are in walking distance of Babe's.

Hall Office Park features the Texas Sculpture Garden, the largest collection of contemporary Texas sculpture art in the world. The sculptures are located indoor and outdoor in the well-landscaped park.

I shot all of these photos with Ivy Bressler in Hall Office Park (later, I shot some photos at an ice cream shop, but I don't have those uploaded, yet):

Tunnels are a funny thing to call a covered sidewalk, but that is what a lot of local folk call them.

The shopping center is actually a sort of village square. It was designed after the old European town model that incorporates apartments and small shops within walking distance. The idea is to cut down on driving for daily needs, while increasing the amount of walking people do.

City Hall is at one end of the village square. It includes all the regular city hall offices, and the Frisco Public Library.

I assume you mean the new railroad museum that is being built next to the village square? That's what those small buildings are part of in your photos.

The water fountain is nice, too.

So it looks like that "museum" is called Frisco Heritage Center. But I can't seem to find anywhere on their site what their rules around photography are. Do you just go out there (with a client family) and go for it? Or do you have t get permission first? And if so, where/how do you get that? Sorry if that's a dumb question - new to this! Thank you!!

Well, I've photographed clients around the museum a lot this summer and I've never had any issues. Although I don't know the actual policy. Every time I've been there the museum has been closed and the surrounding areas are practically empty. It's a pretty public area and I imagine it would be hard to regulate.

I actually emailed them and they were really nice. They emailed me back almost immediately with this:

Friend, feel free to take all the pictures you wish. We are just glad to
share our little bit of Texas history with you.

Have fun, and welcome to Frisco, Texas!

6455 Page Street
Frisco TX 75034

If you know where Babe's Chicken is, it's right there. Babe's is practically part of the place.

A great spot for family sessions is Frisco Commons! Here are images from a session I did there.

It has some cool architecture, a beautiful wooden playground, and nice greenery. I was impressed. Also, apparently close by (though I didn't check it out) is a water feature that people are free to play in. It'd be great for some fun lifestyle photos.. Though soon it'll probably be closed for winter, if it's not already.

I realize that this is an old thread...but I wanted to add that Frisco commons has a few walking paths towards the back of the park. If you go "off" path you'll find yourself in a decent size field with tall grasses (and a small wooded area) that is kinda cool.

This wasn't off of that path but was at the park:
