Here's a look at two of the cars, the 6th version (or 8th, depending on how they are counted) from 2003 winner, MS&T, plus a pic of the UT Austin entry.
MS&T placed third in qualifying events this week. MS&T's solar car program started in 1999. Their cars feature advanced aerodynamics, carbon fiber body, 30kg of LiPoly batteries, wheel farings fore and aft, removable lightweight steering/dashboard, and on and on.
Also there at today's event, U of Michigan, Missou, Principia, and more...
Some more back story: UT failed to qualify this year due to mechanical issues delaying their arrival, but have used the experience to build upon. They also had some issues putting signage of their sponsors and school...so in true college fashion, someone added some last minute touches, like a bumper sticker and a Jack Ball!
Added requirements to the cars this year include a 10 second egress requirement of all drivers and their cars, minimum 23 degree driver seat, and an amber warning strobe.
Sunday 9am, they start!
