If anyone has one, can you tell me what type of USB connector it has? I have misplaced my cable - haven't used my scanner in ages, but I found a bunch of Kodachrome slides from a trip to Europe in 1972 and I wanted to scan them. I just need to figure out what cable will plug into the back of the scanner - and replace it, but I'm not sure what size I need. Firewire? Older scanners had USB and Firewire. Firewire was faster than USB.
When your finished with the slides make me an adoption offer I can't refuse! Cash may be a possibilty.
Good luck!

Hmmm, the plug into the computer is definitely USB. It's the connector to the scanner that has me puzzled. The plug on the cables that fit any of my cameras is too small to fit the scanner.
Wayne, when I do get these slides (and the boxes of my parents slides) scanned, I'd love to recycle this to someone who will use it. I'll let you know. Now that I just got a new 1TB external scanner, I'm going to get going on this project....just as soon as I can get my scanner plugged in. I know all the cables were with it last year, but in packing our upstairs when we repainted, I'm sure they are in some box I still haven't unpacked.

Thanks! No hurry.
Are you saying that the scanner was connected to your current computer with USB or USB2?

I just called Nikon support - they are send me a new one - $8.71. It is a USB cable, a UC-LS1??????? I may well be able to walk into Office Depot and pick one up, but it was easy to order from them.

The cable you need is a 4-pin male Type A to 4-pin male Type B connector. It's the most standard style of USB cable.
It looks like this:
The ones that your digital cameras take terminate in a mini-USB connector on the end, like you said its interface is much smaller than the cable you need.

Thanks John - he wouldn't tell me 4-pin male Type A to 4-pin male Type B - just Nikon's "code" UC-LS1. Now I know I can get one nearly anywhere and use it tonight. I don't mind having a backup one, though, when the Nikon one comes.
I can't believe I couldn't find one at my house last night. I was astounded at the number of cables I seem to have accumulated in the past 7 years that we've lived in this house. I may have a cable sale soon! LOL.

Yes, I ran over to the Office Depot across the street at lunch and got what I needed. I also have one on it's way from Nikon. I'm sure I'll find the original one tonight. LOL. New resolution: label my darn cords, so I know what goes with what! Second new resolution: find a place to keep all cords together. I'm sure being organized must be nice. I may never know.
Finding that whole set of Kodachromes was sweet! The colors still seem bright and clear. Can't wait to scan some. I was either way to smart for my own good at 15 to know to buy Kodachrome or my dad picked out the film I took. I'm guessing the latter. In fact, I think I was somewhat surprised at the time to find out I had shot slides. I wish I could remember what camera I took with me - I don't remember having my own SLR until college. It's also hard to imagine that I only shot about 4 or 5 rolls of film for an entire summer in Europe and thought that was plenty. You had to really think about whether you wanted to waste a shot on something or not! Boy, how times have changed with the advent of digital capture. UPDATE: This morning, I was looking at my bank account online and noticed a $49 charge to Nikon. Now, the cable itself was only $8.71, so I was somewhat incensed when I called them. Fortunately, the rep I spoke to said that was only a "hold" on my card pending shipping and the actual total, including tax and shipping was $14.63. Okay, my blood pressure is back to normal now and I am no longer ready to say bad things. Back to regularly scheduled programming....oh wait, that's pre-empted by the media circus in LA.
