Fake Leica camera worth anything? - 09-28-2009, 10:51 PM

I might have a chance to pick up a fake Leica, but I have no idea hat its worth. I am pretty sure its soviet, most likely a fed 2. Anybody ever see a logo with an "M" with wings on it on one of these (I'll post a picture later). Any help with giving this person a fair offer is appreciated :)

A FED is not a fake Leica. It is a FED. All about FED's at Fedka.

Here is the top plate of a 1937 NKVD FED which I still shoot.

Apparently this one has been badged to look like a Leica, not badged fed. I'm still waiting on the pictures.

The "M" below the eagle/swastika identified the original Leica as being used by the German Marines. Without the"M" but with the eagle/swastika Navy.

These "fakes" were either Fed's or Zorki's. While they are not real Leicas many are in fact good cameras worth using.

Since many are in need of service I wouldn't pay more than $60-100..

I started with a slightly newer version of the craigslist Canon & 50mm lens. A fine set up and a very good price if it's all working correctly.

I can't find the link right now on my work computer, but there is an extensive site on Leica fakes, the good, the bad & the ugly... and it includes about 5 or 6 key tells that get by all but the best educated buyers

I welcome comments on any picture I post... Thanks.

No pictures yet, but the top of the camera reads "Leica", "Ernst Leitz Wetzlar", "D.R.P.", "No.210513".
