Odd and ends for 8x10?

This is a discussion on Odd and ends for 8x10? within the The Darkroom forums, part of the Photography Information category; Those work. There are few, if any, bad lenses for 8x10. Perhaps a large range of prices....

Looking at 240 range but do want good movement with it.

Dark Cloth, any suggestions? I've seen on LFP some mention of white over black to reduce heat.
I use a Ries tripod which looks very similar to the Berlebach except it does not have the center column. Just a large round plate. In my case, a head is required although the camera could be mounted directly to the tripod. The leveling column on the Berlebach will not be much help if you want to shoot down at something as I doubt the column has a whole lot of range. The Ries head can aim the camera straight down at the ground, or straight up at the sky. But you have to rotate the camera 180 degrees to go from straight up to straight down. I have the J600 which comes with a case and breaks down small enough to fit into a normal size roll around suit case so it is easy to fly with or ship ahead.

I have made my own dark cloths. Easy to do, three layers thick, two white and one black. Thin cotton. I make them to fit the camera perfectly. I have found that the more layers the cooler they are. Also, the waterproof ones are very hot to work under. I keep a few large plastic trash bags in my back pack to throw over the camera if an unexpected shower hits.

Another piece of the puzzle. From APUG. A classic 12" (305mm) ever so slightly wider than normal affordable lens for 8x10.

General Information
This 12" Ilex Paragon Anastigmat Lens, f6.3 Series S, is mounted in a No. 4 Acme Synchro shutter.

This is a good, inexpensive starter lens for 8x10. Some also have mounted it on a graphic lens board and hung it on the front of a Speed or Crown Graphic. It works as a telephoto in that format but it is really big looking. It will focus at infinity but I don't think it will allow you to focus in completely on those cameras.

The glass is coated and in pretty good shape; no major cleaning marks, a few tiny specks, nothing that will affect your images.

Synched for flash, but I have not tested. Aperture is nice and smooth.

Shutter sounds accurate at all speeds. I will test it and write down the actual speeds before I mail it.

It has a nice preview lever too. The T setting acts like B. I may be using the preview lever wrong but I just wanted to let you know.

Comes with a retaining ring and an original leather lens cap (not shown)

Please view the pictures for condition.
