Process and Scan Service - 10-25-2009, 10:26 AM

I've been searching all over the Internet for about an hour or so for a service that will process 35mm film and produce high quality (3200 dpi) scans to disc (DVD). So far all I find are services that will scan negatives after the fact.

If that's all there is, then I guess I can get the film processed at my local CVS or Walgreens and then send off the negatives to have them scanned, but it would be more convenient to just have this done all in one place.

Even better is if I can find a place in Dallas. I live in Plano, so the closer the better.

I don't have a good working camera right now, but I might be after to fix my Nikon 35mm SLR. If I can, then I might start shooting again with that, but I don't want to do that unless I can have the film easily turned into digital.

Thanks,
Danny

Not quite 3200 dpi, but Dwaye's Photo will make approx. 3000x2000 scans at time of processing.

There's a lab in Montana (Yellowstone Photo) and a lab in Boulder (guessing-Denver metro area, but not Denver) who handle film up to 4x5. I think they also scan at time of processing.

Paying for 3200 dpi scans will buy you your very own scanner in short order.

Scan cafe is an after the fact scanner only. no processing.

I just sent some 120 off to Dwaynes. If my stuff is in order (i.e. the pictures turn out), I'll post a few and send you a file to see how they turn out.

If I'm shooting a lot of film, paying for the service will be worth the time savings despite it costing more than a scanner in the long wrong.

Thanks for the input venchka.

So if I understand correctly, it would cost about $7 to process and scan. That doesn't sound too bad. Ugh, shipping and handling will add $4.50. Well, it might be worth shooting 36 and see how they do.

Ah, 120 film. I had Dwayne's do that once: process & scan. 15Mb files as I recall.

I scanned 2 rolls of 120 & 1 of 220 last Saturday. Equal to 4 rolls of 120. Total for developing through Sam's Club: less than $1.00. Cost of my ancient Epson scanner: $150.

Making my own 48 bit, 2,400 spi, 200Mb files? Priceless!

Precision in Austin was still doing processing and scanning a few weeks ago, even though I don't see scanning on their site now. Scans when processed are much cheaper.

You might try Holland Photo a try too. In Austin, also.

They both do great work. Holland is a photolab only and caters to pros.
