120 Develop (C41 only) in Clear Lake? - 10-25-2009, 02:13 PM

Hey guys, did a thread search and didn't really find a definite answer, but is there anyone in the Clear Lake area that does 120 C41 in the Clear Lake / Pasadena / Webster area?

I just got my Kiev 88 in the mail, since the Arista BW400 still hasn't showed up, I shot a few rolls of Reala. The closest are Wolf (they want $10 per roll) and Bay Area Imaging (formerly One Great Photo Lab), who wants 6.05 for negs only, the latter seeming like not too bad of a deal. Calling around, the local Walgreens, CVS, Sam's and Walmart don't. I imagine Webster Camera might, but charge an arm+leg for it, like everything else they do (last time I was in they wanted $6.99 for a roll of 36exp Tri-X, 4.99 for the frozen expired stuff.)

Check with Wayne (venchka) tomorrow when he is back on... he and a few others have been sending 120 & 220 C-41 through the Walmart or Sam's Club processing and getting it developed (negs only) for an incredible price - - but they can give you the scoop. You should be able to find a thread here on TPF where Wayne posted info on it in the past month or so.

I don't use the Walmart service - - I take my 120 & 220 C-41 to a place here on I-10 & Blalock (The Photo Lab - - too far for you) where the price for 120 negs only is about $4.95 + tax. They do a good job and turn it around in 24 hrs. And they are really nice, too.

Good Luck.

Haha, offering David? I can do BW without issue but color is just no bueno for me. I still have that stack of super expired 4x5 if you want it (and a few holders too).

I think I'll shoot one more roll of Reala, send it to Bay Area Imaging to see what their quality / turnaround is. The rest to Dwaynes (6.98 per roll for negs+prints, or 6.30 for two rolls+4x4's.)

The question is, just do the negs+prints, or spring for just negs+CD? My thought process is that on the CD I'll just print them from MPix or wherever when I need it, but is there any advantage if I get it from them?

Thanks guys, always the best advice from here!

I would if I hadn't just started developing C-41 and could guarantee results.

Haha whenever you feel ready, please give me a call. In the meantime, will you be near here any time soon? The 4x5 stuff is just taking up room next to the paper safe.

I'm wanting to go shoot some long exposures one morning in Galveston - probably the 7th or 8th.

Say, David, if you don't mind some company, let me know when you are going to go to Galveston... I'll go along with you. No promises at this point, but I'd like to work on it...

If you can stand the 2 week wait, Walmart ($0.84/roll) or Sam's Club ($0.46/roll) for sleeved negatives is hard to beat. Same price for 120 or 220. I'm finally burning through my stash of 220. They will also take E-6 but the price is higher.

All of this was verified once more this past Saturday. I collected 1 roll of 120 & 1 roll of 220. $0.92 plus tax. You can't do it yourself for that price. I have unconfirmed information that says prints at time of devloping are equally cheap. In the range of $0.06 to $0.15 for 3x5 up to 5x7.

I'm not sure that goes for all Walmarts / Sam's Clubs. The local Walmart quoted $5.99 for a roll of 120 sentout, and Sam's Club has a funny hold system that gives you a few minutes of music, and then hangs up.

The $5.99 price probably includes prints. Write "120 C-41 Develop, Sleeve, No prints" in the special instructions area. Works for me. About a dozen+ rolls since May-June. I just picked up film on Saturday. The film is collected/returned on Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday around midday. I left film after work on Oct. 8 and it came back yesterday. Exactly 2 weeks-Saturday to Saturday.

ps: Never never ever ever expect a straight story from anyone working at any of these stores. It's not their fault. They get very few questions about 120 film. Put a roll of film in an envelop. Write what I said above on the envelope. Come back in 2 weeks and pay for the film. Bring a $1.00.

Thanks! I'll try it the next time I need 500 AA batteries or a gal. of ketchup.

Just dropped off my rolls for Dwaynes at the PO. Excitedly awaiting mediocrity! Finishing up a roll to test at BAI later this week if the weather clears.

ps: Rumor has it that 120/220 film left at Walmart or Sam's goes to Dwayne's. Think about it.

Where is this 4x5 film or does David have right of first refusal???????????????

I think I'll head to Wal Mart tomorrow and see what I can do then. Again, thanks for the heads up!

David contacted me first, it's between you two on who wants it. I have to note it's all incredibly expired, some unopened, but incredibly incredibly expired. Like...1+decade expired.
