Target no longer doing inhouse processing? - 11-16-2009, 10:58 AM

Tried to have negs developed at my local Target over the weekend, was told that they are doing sendout on all C41 with 7 day turnaround now? Is this true for all stores?

Probably, I think its an unfortunate reality but I think thats the way its going. All I ever buy is b&w film anymore and I just process it myself.

There was a 1 hour machine running at the Fry Road & 290 (Cypress) store a few months ago-like mid summer. I didn't check when we were there last week. You might give them a call.

You have no idea how many Walgreens I tried before swearing off Walgreens forever. I even tried different folks on duty at the same Walgreens.

I preferred my neighborhood Target to Walgreens because they had a brand new, well-maintained Kodak processor. Walgreens always scratched up my negs something awful.

This is why I do my own C-41. Eventually I'll do others C-41 after I get comfortable enough with the processing.

My target doesn't even do it anymore, as I was told by customer service. (On Bay Area past Baybrook)

Well, my Target ended up sending my order to Fuji Processing. Fuji in a spectacularly comical fashion bungled the instructions completely (process only, no prints desired, do not cut negatives) and tried to charge me $10.81 for a set of 4x6 prints and a CD of scans that I didn't order and that were completely botched (the negatives were in a 24 x 59mm Widelux panoramic format and they cut and scanned the negs as 24x36).

Moral of story: take business to Costco next time

I think in the next few years you will see that happening at more and more locations. My company had stores that had one hour processing in them for years but as consumers made the switch to digital the space was to valuble for too little return.

crackhead,

That's really awful. Did you call Fuji to at least get a new roll of film and explain to them they need to hire folks who can read and comprehend 9 word instructions?

I suppose all 35mm film goes through a machine that treats all rolls alike. Bummer.

The machine develops and dries, but people cut the film. A PERSON cut through the images...

That is criminal incompetence. Punishable by flogging. Or even worse.

it's very annoying, yes. thankfully none of this was critical work. But it's annoying not to have a reliable local go-to place for one-day processing.

If you have other non-critical C-41 work I can try to do it for you.
