In relation to what - 11-18-2009, 08:57 AM

Once upon a time, but not too long ago, in the dark ages before the darkroom thread was born on TPF, there existed "thread hijacks". Lo, there was a decay hijack, and then a cemetery hijack, and a creek and stream hijack, and many thus hijacks, wherein many fine photographs created from film based media were displayed and commented upon with enthusiastic participation.
Then came the darkroom thread, and there was much discussion on chemicals, and film, and larger and larger cameras, and lens boards, and coffee developer, and the photos themselves were left on the negatives. A viewing of all the posts on the first page of this thread reveals only one pertaining to actual photos, the "first photos from the Kiev 88" post, and the rest dealing with the equipment involved in creating the image on the film.
In order to return to the roots of the birth of this thread, I am proposing a game of sorts. I will post a photo. I will list the basic creation method:
Camera:
Lens:
Film:
Exposure data: (if you remember)
Then someone else will post another photo that relates to something in my photo in some way. Not in form (as in B&W, or portrait, or Kodachrome) but in relation to a part of the actual image. As in, my first photo has trees, water, fog, and a rope in it. So you might choose one or more of those parts of the image and have them in your photo as well. Then someone else will post another, and another, and another, and we will have photos again to view and comment upon.

First Photo:
It was foggy last week.
Camera: Mamiya 6
Lens: 50mm
Film: Fuji NPH 400
Exposure: F4 at I think 125

Cool Associations........fun! - 11-18-2009, 09:19 AM

A first try at moving water gone somewhat wrong. My first roll of Ilford Pan F+, thanks to Big Dog (David). Combined red filter and polarizer to get the shutter speed up around 4 seconds. I should have stopped right there. I then applied the reciprocity factor. 30 seconds came into my brain from my recollection of an article somewhere. I should have stopped at 4 seconds. I then developed the film for the first time ever by allowing it to stand unmolested in Rodinal 1:100 for 1 hour. Given the number of "firsts", it's amazing that anything of use was left on the film base.

Guadalupe River at Gruene, TX
Pentax 6x7
105mm 1:2.4 lens
30 seconds @ 1:11 or 1:16
Ilford Pan F+ @ 50
Rodinal 1:100, stand, 1 hour

Thanks Tom! This should be fun.

As soon as someone went down the "water" route, I knew I was in trouble. And with the turn to "moving water" or "rocks" I'm even further in trouble! My only successful water moving over rocks picture I have ever taken!

Camera: Borg-o-matic 4x5
Lens: Kodak 170mm Anastigmat
Film: X-ray
Exposure: about 1/8 sec @ f/22

What's wrong with that? You should do that more often. Big problem: You must drive a good ways from Houston to find proper water moving over proper rocks. Perdnalez Falls is calling.

The forms of the limbs against the clouds is similar to Wes's water over the rocks... so here is my entry.

Fomapan 400 with a Holga, souped in Pcat HD, stand dev.

I don't know... looks more like Wayne's moving water than mine! LOL

But it takes it in a good direction - - away from moving water...

Cool Triumvirate - 11-18-2009, 11:06 AM

Bare branches. Clouds. Moving water. All together. I wish I could post a BIG version. Things get lost when you see this so small.

Camera: 4x5 Zone VI
Lens: Fujinon-W EBC 125mm 1:5.6
Filter: B+W Yellow-Green
Film: Arista-EDU Ultra 200 (a.k.a. Foma 200)
Exposure: f/22, shorter than 1 sec. I didn't use my watch.
Processing: Xtol 1:3, 10 mins. @ 68F, continuous agitation.
Post: Some strange Lightroom split toning that I think I need to get rid of.

I'll see your bare branches and old wooden buildings with a much closer old wooden building.
Mamiya 6
50mm lens
Kodak 400CN chromo film
no idea what the exposure was

It will be interesting to see how far from the original photo this will take us.

Oh yeah, I meant to compliment Valerie, I'm just a sucker for that Holga look.

Tom, I put your picture up on the screen and every time I go past it, I look for a few seconds... the more you look at it, the more detail you can see in the fog on the opposite side of the river. I have not done any purposeful fog shooting - - the once or twice that I have tried, the fog was all dissipated by the time I got somewhere and set up. I would like to go somewhere for the expressed purpose of shooting things emerging from the fog as a visual effect.

Pretty far, because now I wanna participate, and im still building up my medium format portfolio.

I will see your house and window, with something a little deeper, something inside that house, and glass as in a windows, but cleverly placed in a reflective manner in which for the one who inhabits such a house to glance upon themselves with...

I wish my portraits looked more like Wes's. Unfortunately most of them look more like, well, mine.

You keep saying Party. And leave your front door open. No telling what might happen.

OK, backing up just a bit. To the day at Zedler's Mills when it rained. And rained. And then rained some more.

Raising Tom with some grafitti. In color even.

Hasselblad 501cm
Zeiss 80mm CFE Planar
Kodak Portra, not sure which flavor. Maybe 800.
