200 Losing Jobs In Fuji Film Closure
Company Sites Increase Of Digital Camera Use

TULLAHOMA, Tenn. -- About 200 people in Tullahoma just learned they're losing their jobs.

Fuji Film executives announced Wednesday they're closing the facility there at the end of March. The company was one of Tullahoma's biggest employers.

A facility in Texas is also closing. The company is consolidating its film processing operations in Greenwood, S.C.

Representatives said the closures are a result of more people using digital cameras.

You would think that with Walmart funneling all their film to Fuji and Kodak closing their labs, that they could keep the regional labs running. It's like monkey see, monkey do. Kodak shut down Readyloads when Polaroid croaked. Shortly after that Fuji shut down some of their QuickLoad offerings. I sure hope that the 50 or so folks it takes to make Efke film can hang in there.

E-6 Processing doesn't look to be a difficult process.

Fuji bailed out of E-6 2-3 years ago. Gave the business to Dwayne's.

Short answer, no.

I haven't vested in E-6 chemicals yet (as I still can't justify the cost in trying it out since I like the way my slides come out in crossed in C-41), but I do have a Jobo and the procedure seems fairly straight forward. If you don't mind it being crossed I can most certainly develop a roll for you, but I'm still not comfortable enough with all films (I shoot Velvia, Ektachrome, and Portra all processed in C-41) and how they come out to process for anyone else. If you don't need guaranteed results I can develop a roll for you.

David, you must be an artist. Grinning.

At the rate labs are closing, and if somebody continues to offer the film & chemicals, I'm kicking myself for not buying the Jobo CPP-2 I was offered. I figure I could do small batch processing at home for others.
