Need direction to find someone that can make prints from negs - North of Austin - 03-30-2010, 12:28 AM

Howdy Y'all ...

Alas, I know nothing about film or the developing/processing thereof. So ... I pose this question to you in the hopes that someone can assist with it.

A friend/client has presented me with an envelope filled with single exposure film negatives. I have no idea anything about them sans that they measure appx 3.5" x 2.5" and they are NOT on a roll. Are are cut out individually.

These were found in her grandparents items and she has no clue what/who they are, etc.

She is wanting to either have them scanned directly to a disk so she can decide what to have printed. (Is that even possible? I doubt it.)

I told her that more than likely she would have to have them printed, then scanned then they could be burned to disk. I may be mistaken.

I'll try to post an image that I got of one for reference.

We are in the Jarrell area, appx 1/2 hour north of Austin on the 35.

Any assistance re: someplace to have them processed/printed/etc. either in here or directly emailed to me would be appreciated!

Thanks!

You can check pricing at the places above.

However, it may be just as cheap to buy a film scanner, yes they make them, and do all this yourself.

Look up Epson, I have a V700 that will do the job, there may be a cheaper model that will suit your needs.

Pounds Labs has a location in Austin. You might drop by there and chat with them. Or as has been suggested get a film scanner and do it yourself.

If the negatives are in protecitve sleeves or envelopes, proceed as above. 2 1/4" x 3 1/4" negatives can be scanned with the Epson V700 or others. If the negatives are loose and unprotected, all bets are off if there is anything worth scanning that won't take hours of fixing in Photoshop.

In the Austin area, there are 3 places I know of that could scan and/or print your negatives:
Holland Photo
Precision Camera
Pounds

However, I think Pounds only has the office here, and sends out the jobs to their lab somewhere else.

Thank y'all so much for the info!

I would have been back here interacting sooner but I didn't receive notice of replies ... even though I set it up to do that.

All of the negatives are in one envelope, unprotected. And unfortunately, I don't know that they were even stored that way ... I seem to recall being told they were found in a box.

I will pass on this information to her and let her decide where to go from here.

Again, my sincere thanks to all of you for your time and valuable assistance!

Don
