I hear what you are saying. I have recently received a bunch of old negative from the 30s to the 50s that I've been scanning.
The big question: is it 35mm film or is it a larger size?
Black and white negatives doesn't fade although the contact sheet prints may have.
You may want to consider buying a flatbed scanner, such as a Epson V500, and scanning it yourself. They you can have the digital file printed somewhere like Ritz Camera. It'll probably take the longest, but you'll retain control over your negatives.
If they are 35mm negatives, you could also get it printed at a Ritz/ Wolf Camera. Although the quality would be the best, a pro shop may get expensive if you are doing a lot of prints. It could cost you $4 per print for a 4x6, while Ritz Camera may cost $0.25 per print.
If you have larger film, such as 2x3 sheet film or 120 film, I would definitely look at the scanner. |
