Scanning B&W Wedding Photos from 1947 - 07-20-2010, 09:49 PM

I am trying the stock Canon Software, SilverFast, and VueScan and not really getting good results with any.

Any recommended settings?

Should I scan as a color photo to get as much info as possible or just do B&W photo, 16 bit grayscale?

Is there a way to do dust and scratch repair on printed photos with VueScan?

Thanks in advance.

Will do. I am scanning some with a variety of settings and I'll get them up.

Long delay. I got tied up. I haven't had a lot of time to play with it, but I tried the Canon software, SilverFast and VueScan. I think I got the best results from the Canon software so far, but I am buying VueScan anyway to use with my Minolta 5400 II.

No editing, straight scan:

Mild editing, Color fix and mild dust and scratch removal in the scanner software:

I didn't scan this one in the other software setups. I did do some in all three, I just have to find them.

I should have tried harder to post these as soon as I scanned them so I'd remember the settings. =/

Canon attempt #1, Mostly auto, B&W photo:

Canon attempt #3, more adjustments, scanned as color photo:

Silverfast Attempt, mostly auto, some tweaking:

VueScan attempt #1, B&W photo

VueScan attempt #2, color photo with tweaking:
