Question Darkroom near Denton? - 09-01-2010, 09:04 PM

Anyone near Denton have a darkroom?

I dont know why, but film has been all over tonight. And its got me interested in shooting/developing at least ONE roll of film pretty soon. I'm going to have my mom ship my Canon film body back to me, and, if it still works I'd like to try a roll of B&W again.

You don't need a darkroom to develop film.

You can buy the materials, roll in a dark space. I go in my closet at night..

After you have it on the reel and in the can, the rest of the process is done in the light.

For one roll, I would be tempted to pay someone.

You could try some C41 B&W. To me it just doesn't look right, but it is easy to get done.

No, but you need a darkroom to develop paper.

I did it in high school in the mid 90's. Its how I got started in photography.

Thats true. The current trend is develop and scan.

As far as a rental I couldn't tell ya.

One of the best ways I know of is to sign up at your local Community College.

Its cheap and everything is supplied, except paper and film.

Nothing really anymore. I think that the old Photo Place on Teasley used to rent a darkroom and maybe Film Depot, but they're both long closed now. Only place I can even think of is Light Tec down in Dallas.

We used to have an "underground" darkroom in the basement at Bruce Hall at UNT. At one point it had been either a bathroom or a maintenance room, but it had been ghetto-rigged into a darkroom. All the equipment was donated second hand as people graduated and it used to be a big secret for photo kids.

Ahh good times...

The University in Denton. Take a class. You could even get an MFA in Photography there. A community college in the Dallas area that even teaches ancient processes. GOOGLE! Bryan (timbertoes) knows.

One roll isn't enough. Buy a brick of Arista Premium 100 and get busy.

Look up Shannon Drawe in Denton. I know he had one in his home at one time. He'll probably sell all his stuff now.

He was actually teaching black and white with T400 and scanning. Heresy!
