Developing and scanning film - 11-25-2010, 08:30 AM

Where do you develop and scan your medium format film? I got a quote from my local camera store and just want to make sure that I know my options...

How much does it usually cost to develop film for medium format? Where is the best place to develop the film? Is there an online based company with competitive prices?

Do you scan your images yourself?

Thanks!

What Conor said. B&W in the kitchen. C-41 color negative film goes to Walmart. Develop only. $0.88/roll plus tax. Yes, that is 88 pennies/roll. I can't develop B&W for that price. Takes about a week or two. The film goes to Fuji in South Carolina. Scanning at home. If you are scanner shopping, not all scanners will accept medium format film. The Epson V-700/V-750 seem to be the worth the extra money AND will scan 4x5 and even 8x10 film. If you find a nice clean low mileage Epson 4990 with all of the original goodies jump on it.
I forgot E-6. Walmart will send E-6 off to a lab but I haven't tried them yet.
If using Walmart, fill out envelopes for each roll. In special Instructions say Develop & Sleeve Only. Drop in the box and come back and pick it up. Do NOT expect anyone on the payroll to have any idea how to get 120/220 film processed. They will also handle Kodachrome for another month.

Hey Wayne, I have one roll of 135 Kodachrome, the Wally envelopes are still good for that?

FullColor in Dallas; I have not shot medium format though in a long time so I can't quote prices. You can have them develop and make a CD of the images all in one step. Or you can have them develop and then you can crop yourself with crop cards and have them scan that.

Yep. I've been sending 2 rolls a week since October. Write K-14 Kodachrome in the Special Instructions. Wait 2 weeks. They pick up Tues-Thurs-Sat about 2pm in houston. Not sure about Huntsville. $5.88/roll. Sometimes $6.88. Strange, but i don't complain.
