Looks like it works pretty well to me. This is probably the last roll of color film I develop myself. I do have a bunch of Velvia 50, but I'm really just not that into shooting color film. I don't find it has any advantage over the 5DMKII. My Mamiya and my Pentax will probably be on a steady diet of B&W film from here on out.

Nothing wrong with medium format B&W. Nothing at all.

Latitude, lots and lots of latitude (especially as you move up in format )

Check out inside analog photography radio podcast... There are tons of photographers on there that now do their weddings all in film...

Check out Jose villa's work http://josevillablog.com/

In short it's tons of latitude some people are shooting the new portra 400 at 3200 and getting perfectly scannable negs, while others are pulling fuji 400h 1-3 stops and getting beautiful colors.. Colors I spend 30 minutes in Photoshop per picture to get ....

I've shot all I care to shoot and haven't run into a situation where I found myself thinking "I sure wish I had more latitude" yet. I'm sure someone will talk me into at least exposing some large format stuff at some point, but I'll never buy one. I'm good with the Pentax and the Mamiya for my B&W film stuff, and the Canon for my color.

I've checked it out. I do not shoot weddings anymore; I'm not impressed by the medium anyone chooses to shoot. Again, latitude isn't a problem for me. I can't fathom taking 30min per picture to get the colors I want for a shoot unless for some inexplicable reason I felt the need to expose every single frame in wildly different light. That sounds far more like an issue of an inefficient workflow than it does a lack of latitude.

To each his/her own. I like film, but I won't be shooting it in color anymore (once I run out of this Velvia I got when I bought the Pentax).

Yeah I think 30 minutes was a bit on the side of extreme... But after creating an effect and doing all the skin smoothing and all that you could easily spend that amount of time in post process especially on portraits that will be enlarged to 20x30... Depends on the couple... I've done 30 some odd weddings and would say that I'm sick of Photoshop (even with a streamlined workflow)... I think that's my big draw to film....

But yeah there isn't much that film offers more than digitl until you get into the larger formats when it comes to color... I think processing color is too much work for the payoff and sending it out is a little expensive... But in black and white??? You can't beat film...

I've had no problems going larger than 20x30 even from the 12MP 5D I used to have. No arguments on the B&W front though.

I've spent longer with the heal brush on a single image. Don't talk to the guys that do serious retouching work for print then.

In general, I try not to talk to people who take themselves too seriously. One might also consider how little the healing brush is directly related to the quote you've singled out. If I'm trying to get the color right in an image, and I'm focusing on the healing brush - I probably wouldn't consider myself one who does serious retouching work. I've spent tons of time retouching images, but getting the colors where I want them hardly takes up the bulk of that time. Nice try though.

wow so much negativity... lets agree to disagree... we all have our different ways of getting to the final image... no real way is right or wrong, it's all about the image in the end...

nice shot... i'm sorry that color film isn't for you.. heck it's not for alot of people... i know I don't like it in 35mm at all!!! even to a certain extent medium format color too...

it's neat seeing you delve into film the same way many of else have.... each person has their own journey through the medium... heck if you talked to me a year ago i would have NEVER touched color film because i felt that my 5dmkII did the job better... now i've sold my mkII for lrge format gear... who would have thunk it...

anyways... you post good work.. hope to see more of it here...

cheers bro

p.s. if you're not interested in shooting that velvia 50 i'll gladly take it off your hands... I do some e6 at home... not too crazy about how it scans but i like how the slides look on a light board.. lmk i can paypal you money..
