When I think back
On all the cr@p I learned in high school
It's a wonder
I can think at all
And though my lack of edu---cation
Hasn't hurt me none
I can read the writing on the wall

Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, Oh yeah
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama don't take my Kodachrome away

If you took all the girls I knew
When I was single
And brought them all together for one night
I know they'd never match
my sweet imagination
everything looks WORSE in black and white

Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, Oh yeah
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama don't take my Kodachrome away

Mama don't take my Kodachrome away
Mama don't take my Kodachrome away
Mama don't take my Kodachrome away

Mama don't take my Kodachrome
Mama don't take my Kodachrome
Mama don't take my Kodachrome away

Mama don't take my Kodachrome
Leave your boy so far from home
Mama don't take my Kodachrome away
Mama don't take my Kodachrome

Mama don't take my Kodachrome away

Obsolete? No freakin way.
Killed by incredibly intelligent bean counters? Way.
Companies kill to have a monopoly. In the past few years Kodak has shut down several monopolies. So they could loose more money chasing digital dreams.
Dumb.
Kodachrome is something of a bear to scan.

I don't blame bean counters and Kodak. I blame infantile people who can't wait more than 3 seconds to see a picture that they just took, and are willing to party with quality for that instanenous gratifcation. Kodak only stopped selling Kodachrome after people stopped buying it.

My last two rolls arrived at Dwayne's on 12/30, about an hour prior to the deadline. I wonder when I will get them back.

Sales of Kodachrome were very low, its no wonder they stopped making the product. Only makes sense, though it is very sad. I learned to pan motorsports shooting Kodachrome. And I can't find the slides any more. :(

What would be really cool is for Kodak to release a digital filter to get that look from our digital cameras. :)

OK, so for those that use Lightroom, here are some FREE presets that emulate Kodachrome. These are Win/Mac compatible and have been out since early 2009, so if memory serves thats Lr 2 and up.

Kodachrome 10
Kodachrome 25
Kodachrome 64

Here are a couple of random photos within my Lightroom catalog that I thought I would play with.

1. Canon Powershot S90, Original Raw file. SOOC on the left, 1 click preset Kodachrome 64 Auto on the right.

2. Nikon D90, Original Raw file. SOOC on the left, 1 click preset Kodachrome 64 Auto on the right.

Interesting. I'll get those and see what they do with real Kodachrome files.

Don't do it! You'll create a rip in the space-time continuum!

And in the FWIW department. The presets aren't perfect by any means. But they are fun, and I guess thats the point...
