Arista Plastic tank and reel from Freestyle - 01-20-2011, 03:36 PM

Just bought one. Anything has to be better than my old metal reels that I have had forever. Loading it is a nightmare and it almost ALWAYS touches so I get scewed up negs.

Im done with it! Im gonna try the Plastic reels, the arista one is supposed to be good. We shall see.

I also picked up 6 rolls of Arista 100 for $1.89 a roll to meet the $25 minimum. Lots of shooting. Whoo hoo.

Good luck. And make sure you wash those plastic reels VERY well... they are notorious for problems with contamination due to Photo-Flo not being washed out.

I dont use photoflo anyway, I use water with a drop of dishwater detergent. Im sure it will be fine, anything is better than loosing about half of your negatives with each roll of 35mm.

You do know that you can go to Camera Co-op and 9 times out of 10 find perfectly useable 2nd hand Paterson tanks and reels?
Glad you bought some Arista Plus-X. You will like it. Assuming you use a proper Plus-X developer.
Hang on. Which Arista 100 did you buy? Arista Premium 100? The real Kodak Plus-X in Arista boxes?

Same problem... if you don't get it washed out of all the nooks & crannies of the plastic reel, you end up with suds in the developer the next time you use the reel.... and bubbles on your negs. Then you have lost the entire roll. Just an FYI.... I see it happen every semester.

Arista Premium B&W iso 100. That stuff is Plus-x? Sweet.

I never make it out to camera coop anymore.

by the way, Im Zebulus. I just forgot the password to my old account and it was registered under an email address I no longer have.

And yes, im hard headed and I do as I please. Im using diafine for developer now. The stuff's amazing.

You got the film order right. Good for you.

The jury is out on the rest. Grinning.

That you do. High marks for sticking to it where others might have bolted to zeros & ones exclusively.

well, cameras that offer instant gratification dont give me the same feeling as developing my own film does. After owning several digital cameras and not getting the same satisfaction that I did with my old Mamiya, I bought a Nikon FG to pair with my nikon glass, sold my digital equipment, and mixed up my diafine.

The plastic reels are dishwasher safe.

So are the metal ones... when I am doing a lot of film processing, they all go in the dishwasher once every 2 months or so...

My favorite film tanks are the Patterson tanks and reels.

I've been shooting a lot of Arista Premium 100 lately myself. I will be making an order for another 100 ft roll soon..
