No pictures on film?!?! Big WTF? - 03-03-2011, 07:26 PM

I've finished shooting with the TMAX400 film and took it to Walgreen's yesterday to get the negatives made.

I go to pick them up today, and the lady told me that my film roll was blank and their machine couldn't process the pictures. I had a look see, and everything appears to be very faint. Some, nothing at all.

When shooting, I read the light meeter to ensure I had an adequate exposure. I shoot some indoor pictures (made sure there was enough light) and yesterday before I took the film to the store, I shot some pictures outdoors (around 5-6pm) and there was plenty of light left.

Don't know what mistake I made. Film door was closed the whole time. Anyone care to shed some light on the situation?

Camera: Rebel T2
Lens: 50mm f1.8
Film: TMAX400

Walgreen's does not process TMax.

There is a thread about it somewhere.

Doh. That's why I told you to tell one of us when you finished! They shouldn't have even opened it since it's quite clearly not C41. :/

Yeah you did bro. By the time I read that, it was already too late Ah well. Lessons learned that's for sure. I'll add another TMAX 400 to the list of rolls to get.

Does Walgreens only process C41 type films? Wonder if this is true/similar for CVS and the rest.

Guess there must have been a way for me to make the negatives myself.

To my knowledge there is exactly one place in Houston that commercially does B&W developing - AZ Photo Labs. It's just south of Washington off of Shepherd (also about a block and half from Houston Camera Co-op).

Most of us here (all that I know of anyway) do our own B&W developing. It's not difficult, nor is it particularly expensive.

Can the same thing be said for certain color films?

CVS/Walgreens do C41 color film in 35mm for sure. I don't know about E6 slide film. AZ Photo does B&W, C41, and E6. I know C41 can be done at home, I just don't shoot much color film and didn't have the best of luck doing C41 myself.

Careful there, there are some C41 black and white films out there. I believe they are Ilford XP-2 and Kodak BW400CN. Just sayin....

Right, I mean "true" B&W or however you wish to distinguish between XP2/400CN and the "real" B&W emulsions.

The Photo Lab, on the I-10 westbound access road at Blalock does C-41 in 35mm and in 120/220. They do not do E-6, although they did at one time. You would have to contact them about "regular" B&W, although their list of services on the website say they do 35mm & MF B&W.

I guess it's written on the film canister what kind of B&W it is yea?

Regarding developing B&W, if it's possible to do it myself, I'd rather do that. Hope I have some takers showing me how next time I'm done with a roll :)

For beginners like myself with developing, I reccomend diafine.

Pour in A, pour out and Pour in B, Pour out, Pour in Fix, Rinse, Done.

It should say C41, E6 etc on the side of the film roll. I have a mess of E6/CR56 (I think) to use. I used some of the Kodak C41 B&W film. It wasn't bad.
