Came out kinda muddy

I shot it at 200 instead of 100 (box speed) thinking diafine usually pushes a stop. Came out pretty muddy.

Yeah Foma 100 doesn't push well and builds density quickly... I shoot at 50 most of the time and Foma 400 at 200

...And 200 at 100, but not in Diafine.

Yeah, lesson learned. Box speeds from now on. I also purchased 10 rolls of Lucky SHD100 and 6 rolls of Ilford HP5. Im stocked up through the end of the year.

Also, Wes, have you noticed the diafine B bath comes out a different color than it went in wth the Arista.edu? It went in urine yellow and came out an aqua color. Those negatives have a stark blue tint to them, never seen anything like it.

The arista.edu film base is blue. They will always have a blue tint to them. I did not notice that the Solution B changes color, but Solution A comes in a pukey blue-green color, which is a result of the anti-halation layer dissolving in it. If you did a pre-wash, then it would come out blue-green and the Solution A would not change color.

NOTE: I am not recommending that you use a pre-wash - - I have stopped recommending to anyone how to do things - - there are too many people interested in telling me that what I do doesn't work.

Amen Brother! And/or being off topic.

I said something similar yesterday at the Nikon Cafe...

Suffice to say, I do it. Everyone else is entitled to do as they please.
The results are the important thing. Do what works for you.
Cheers!

ps: Zack,
Are you sure that you can't get better results from those negatives at the scanning/post processing stages? Westley and I have managed to salvage some pretty awful looking negatives before.

Its cool, everyone has something that works for them. Ive tried pre-wash and it does not work for me. YMMV.

I may eventually move to a different developer, but I just love the shelf life of Diafine. I may try out Rodinal or maybe HC-110.

@Wayne - the picture you see above is after much lightening in Shotwell (a linux-based photo editor). Yeah, it was worse before.

Sorry, I keep getting the edit and quote buttons confused.
