8.0 Megapixl enlargement - 08-05-2011, 04:45 PM

Hey guys,

I need your help with a question. I have a friend who wants to have a poster sized picture taken. Can you take a 8.0 Megapixel picture and enlarge it to 20x30 and still have it decent quality. If not, what is the recommended Megapixl that can be used for a poster of that size?

Thank you,
Stephen

Short Answer - YES !

Long and Better Answer - It depends on the Total Photographic System ...
Lens Quality, Focus, Pixel Size, Frame Size, Exposure, Stability from vibration, Post Process, Lighting, Print methods, ETC. will all effect image quality {I.Q.}.

Image Quality {I.Q.}is dependent on a lot of factors including the photographers I.Q. {Smartness} !!

Its not the size of your sensor that matters ... its what you do with it that counts !!
But if you must know we girls talk who has the biggest ... and uses it best !!

At 8MP you are beginning to stretch the limits. But you can still get a good image.. Hand holding the camera is not a good idea though.. Proper exposure and tripod mounting are guarantees of getting the best with what you got..

Where I work we get excellent 20x30's with 10-12, etc MP images but most done with 6 or 8MP cameras aren't so good since most were shot hand held..
