Prospec lenses for Minolta - 06-19-2009, 12:13 PM

A friend bought a trunk of junk at an estate sale recently, and found two old Prospec MC autofocus lenses for Minolta in it. He simply gave them to me and I looked them up and there is very little info them. There appear to be minor scratches on the lens surface of one and potential minor moisture/fungal growth within the other.

They appear to be for the Maxxum series, and are as follows:

lens 1: Prospec 28-80 f3.5-4.5
lens 2: Prospec 75-200 f4.5

I understand these may fit Sony Alpha cameras.

Here's where you guys come in:

Are they worthwhile for me to sell for a hobbyist new camera user to play with?
Are they worth trying to sell?
I don't have a camera these will fit. Should I hang on to them and hunt for a cheap camera to mount them on and let my kids play with them?

Comments please!

They are cheap "after-market" lenses. And, as you say, have some scratches and possible fungus. I wouldn't bother, and certainly wouldn't buy a body to use them. If someone wants to buy them, fine. You won't get much.

Just my $.02 ...

Some of the stuff I just found...say they were manufactured by Sigma for the company....they also mentioned that they were cheaply built by sigma...

Don't know how true this is....

I would not mess with a lens that has fungus...you don't want those spores getting into any other lenses...

Both true comments guys. Thanks for the feedback. I did try to take them to three pawn shops, and they weren't interested because they weren't main-line lenses.

I had read the Sigma construction line somewhere else...was just curious if anyone here had any previous experiences with them.

Probably just going to put them on the shelf as decoration since they were freebies...
