Canon L glass made in Japan and Nikkon made in Thailand and China - 07-01-2009, 01:13 PM

All this recent flurry of Canon v Nikkon gets me thinking.

All Canon L glass is assembled in precision labs in Japan, where as the majority of Nikkon stuff these days is made in Thailand and China. Isn't China home of the sweatshop, toxic toys, and tainted dog food?

Just sayin...

Nikon's pro stuff is still made in japan, but like the rest of the world they outsourced their cheaper line of lenses. You cant tell me most of the ef-s lenses are made in japan.

Its unfortunate but its true. I personally like both Nikon and Canon, I think they both have their good and bad points and I think arguments over the brand of tool is stupid. Use what you like and dont listen to the haters.

I guess Canon L glass made in Japan is just as or more succeptable to pathetic quality control compared to Nikon lenses made in Thailand or China.

Too many instances of where the expensive and supposedly superior L lens had to be returned or sent to Canon Service because it did not meet expectations due to manufacturing issues.

Not all Canon L's are created equal....
Not that the "Red ring" lenses are any good to begin with... just kidding

I have a bunch of Canon Lenses, And have had a bunch of Nikon Lenses in the past, and they were all made in Japan... Even if they were made elsewhere, who cares? My iPhone and my macbook pro are made in China, and I have no problems with them... I have a Seagull guitar... it's made in Canada, and it rules. As long as it's made on Earth I'm cool with it. To hell with those Martian Lenses, though.

Leitz Canada hasn't been in operation for a long time. All Leica lenses are currently made in Solms.

By the way, some of the ELCAN lenses as they are know were some of Leitz finest and were designed by Carl Mandeler there. The Leitz facilities in Midland, Ontario were due to fears of a Soviet invasion of Germany.
"The Key to the Leica picture

Leica's high-performance lenses are all made, by hand, at Leica's main factory in Solms near Wetzlar, Germany. They represent the fruit of many years of experience in optics and precision mechanics and are produced using unique technologies, high-quality materials and the commitment and craftsmanship of expert staff. Only they can deliver true Leica quality to your images."
