Hmmm, thoughts about 2.8 zooms...
Kinda vague question, I would say.

The best answer I can give you for this is that they are all very good. Also very expensive...

I think the better question might be which f/2.8 zoom lenses from Nikon you want to avoid.

Off hand, I can't think of one...

As for range, only you know how you like to shoot.

70-200mm f/2.8 VR is the best mid to long
24-70mm, 35-70mm or the 28-70mm f/2.8 are the best mid range
14-24mm f/2.8 is the best wide

what are you using it for? they run from 14-24 up to 400 f2.8 and a lot in between.
I will say all the ones I have used are excellent and worth the money.

Joe- Thanks! I guess I was initially a little vague, but you gave me the info I was looking for! I am also looking to purchase an 85 mm f/1.8 and was wondering which 2.8 zoom might be a nice compliment to that. I probably should have put that information in my original post!

Mike, I believe the 12-24 Nikon is a f4, not a f2.8 . You probably meant the 14-24/f2.8

I've looked on-line at B & H to see what all they have. Does anyone else know of a trustworthy site to buy used equipment from?

For used equipment KEH is very well regarded.

The best place IMHO is TPF. Check out the buy and sell section here.

If looking for the wider angle, you might also like the 17-55 f/2.8. It's a fantastic lens.

I bought all my stuff from BHPhoto or Amazon. No problems. I am sure that you can find excellent stuff at good prices here.
Good luck.

If you're just getting into photography, the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 something something something might be a better option for you. Its only $799 and its a really nice lens.

It really is! But its a DX lens. Nothing wrong with it at all just not sure what camera he's mounting it too.
