Most of the other Elan IIe's were going for a lot more. This one for some reason had no bids, and the guy had 100% feedback on quite a few items. There was another one that i was watching that went for $34 an hour or so before mine.

Both of the items that went for that cheap had pretty short descriptions, so it may have put potential buyers off a little.

Here is a link to the one that i won. What do you think?

That's awesome. I'd like to hear how well you can get the eye-focus to work; mine's just the regular Elan II.

I'll let you know for sure. Hoping it comes this week. He shipped it today, but lives in Alaska, so, it may take a little while.

The camera can remember two eyeball calibrations. I calibrated mine without glasses when I got it at Christmas 1998. Then I got glasses. I was expecting to have to calibrate for glasses. Didn't need to.

Frankly, Canon should have kept the eye control focus and DOF program. Damn shame they didn't.

Make sure that you always turn the camera off. The camera will eat batteries if you leave it turned on.

I had an A2E back in the mid and late Nineties with the eye focus and turned it off. I just didn't care for it...

Besides the brief description, there's only one photo and it's a blurry one. Besides, it's body only. I think all of these worked in your favor. Hope it works out for you. I bought my ELan IIe with 28-80 USM off eBay about six years ago, and thought I was getting a terrific deal for about $250. Well, I suppose I was for six years ago.

Wish the cool old mechanical Canons were going for as cheap. I really want to replace the Old F-1n I let get away years ago with another clean example, but they're hard to find for reasonable.

Hello,

New to this board and late on this thread. I have an ELan IIe body sitting in the top of the closet that I have not touched in five years and will never need again. I was going to sell it but after seeing them go for peanuts on ebay it is not worth the hassle of dealing with potential unhappy people. It is by no means pristine after carrying it all over west texas and southern NM but it worked great when I put it away. If you want a spare it is yours for the cost of shipping it. Hardly anyone wants to shoot film anymore ( I know I don't), and those who do can get a top of the line film camera for next to nothing. there is hardly a market for the midrange to lower end film slrs.

let me know if you want it.

Ryan

My elan IIe came in the mail on friday, and WOW, It looks brand new. Literally. There is not a single scratch or even blemish on the thing. The original strap is in perfect condition. I think i actually like it better than the new canon straps. This one is softer feeling.

The eye controlled focus is actually very, very cool. I tend to change focus points a lot while shooting so i dont have to focus/recompose. Nothing wrong with that, i just feel like moving the focal plane at all could affect the focus, so i try to avoid it. With the eye controlled focus, you just look at which focus point you want, hit the AF button and it chooses the one you are looking at. I have absolutely no clue how that works, but it does, and very well.

I havent tried out the DEP program yet, but it looks pretty cool. I think i know my apertures and DoF pretty well, so i dont know how much i would use this, but, i can see it coming in handy for something like group photos where you absolutely want to be sure everyone is in focus.

I cant wait to finish off my roll of film today and see what came out of the shots.
