Kodak on the subject

Cool It depends - 08-31-2009, 11:21 AM

I didn't follow John's links. Here's what I know:

Personal testing will give you the correct answer for your stuf-shutter, meter, metering style, developer, etc. A lot of people use box speed (400). A lot of people use 1/2 box speed (200). A lot of people use something in between 400 and 200. And then there are the Lunatic Fringe types who use 2, 3, 4 or more times box speed.

So, it all boils down to "It depends." I always got good results from Tri-X at box speed, D-76 1:1 and Kodak's numbers for developing times.

I also get good results at E.I. 250 and my own times for Xtol 1:3.

Find a combination you like and stick with it.

Depending on the situation and the developer I have used it between 100 and about 8,000. It does get a bit grainy beyond 1,000.
