Got to get the word out and get people lined up to buy those M9's.

This isn't just another ho-hum Cankony. It is a very revolutionary camera.

I saw this, very early this morning, on TOP, and I thought of posting a link....
I decided not, so that TPF's own 'Leica Guy' could have the honor!
See...John owns all of the Leica threads around here.
Maybe I'll try a Leica some day!

What is revolutionary about it? Besides price. Curious.

Nothing !! Just overpriced as Bentley Autos.
But its interesting how Leica marketing is following Nikon's "Dark Side" mis step in the 90's...
Photography cameras being the lower market share and Leica {Nikon} Semiconductor Equipment the much larger.
Then the companies wake up and "rediscover" diversity in product sectors after Semiconductor going bust.
If you are interested in how Nikon mis stepped {and the path Leica is on }...
http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/807084/1#7456115.
Its also how Nikon began being called "Dark" in '99 and it aint the lens color.

Any way ... perhaps it will be better and correct the Bad Bad Bad M8...

If this turns out to be true, my hats off to the Germans. Who knew they could actually come up with a fullframe sensor before 2016, by which time the Japanese will probably have begun working on a digital 6x9 sensor!

A full frame sensor which can handle the extreme angle of incidence on the sides for Retro focus lenses. Until now no camera manufacture had been able to do this. They had to opt for smaller sensors and to do it so quickly says Kodak and Leica came up with some very interesting technology very quickly.

What's wrong with driving a Bentley? If you can afford it and want it, it's not over priced. I've used the Bad, Bad, Bad M8 and taken some Good, Good, Good pictures with.

The brochure is drool worthy. Too bad it leaked before the big announcement.

Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel "Like OMG! Leica has come out with like the ultimate Camera in the Universe!, Like its going to be the best thing ever!, OMG, its like no one can ever take another photo again with any other camera!" Can we have a dash of perspective here? Its a FF manual focus rangefinder DIGITAL camera which will be obsolete in 2-3 years, and then the next GREATEST CAMERA EVER!, THE LEICA M10 will be released. And like Apple-holics, the Leica-holics will line up and spend thousands/tens of thousands of dollars on the latest gadget that comes from either Apple or Leica. Sorry, its not like the old Leica film cameras which use Real RAW (i.e. film), where the camera keeps on working great no matter how old because it is designed to use film, not electrons. This camera, I predict will end up as the latest fashion accessory with the Rich and Famous this year at Cannes, and such luminaries as Johnny Depp will be seen carrying one (not using it, just carrying it), and then after a while, they will start getting dumped on the used market when the next REALLY COOL THING FROM LEICA arrives.

Sorry to dump cold water here, but if any camera is going to save Leica it is going to be the S-2 series of Cameras. The M-9 is going to be an uber expensive fashion accessory among the well heeled, and those who just CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT the latest Leica body from Wetzlar/Solms. And if it has the problems that the M-8/M-8.2 have, and Leica charges you out the @ss for an M-9.2 to fix the issue, then bye-bye Leica.

Rumor has the price to be enough that you can purchase a small car or the camera.

I'll ask how long are you going to keep beating this horse?

I'm hoping for prices for the MP or M7 to come down on the secondhand market. Also this M9 will probably bring new people into the M system, and maybe prices for used lenses will go up a little.

The M8.2 gave me some of the nicest images I've ever taken. Granted the lens had something to do with it but without the M8.2, the lens is a paperweight.

I'm excited about the M9 and even more so about the X1.

But to be honest, after the trials and tribulations of the M8, I'll wait to see what the Leica faithful conclude (and that includes the X1 as well).

It's never a bad day when a new camera is announced!

Joe

If you want an M7 watch the Popflash site, Tony gets Leica demos at very good prices. My M7 (which looks new and has 1 year of Leica warrenty was under 1800.
