No it doesn't. Right now one of my favorite Leica lenses on the M8 is a 35/3.5 Summarit which was 295.00 USD from B&H. Learn about Leica lenses (start with Puts, "Leica Lens Compendium". You can get world class Leica lenses for under a thousand dollars if you do your homework, learn the realation between models and serial numbers. A lens may just say Summicron 35mm 1:2,0 but you reall want the version four which is the Bokeh king. So you have to learn how serial numbers relate to versions.
You also need to learn about non-Leica lenses you can use such as Canon SM mounts, Zeiss, Nikon, CV and more. Some CV lenses actually test out as good as some production Leica lenses at 100's of dollars not thousand's.

Here's what a 295 dollar Leica lens can do.

I still don't know how rangefinders work. It might be a while before I memorize the lens lineup.
Although it is interesting and I wouldn't mind having an M9.

Look at the M9 website. It has some good explainations on rangefinder function, and you can even practice your focussing ability.

When I was a kid, my dad gave me a book called simply "The Camera Book". I had my nose permanently planted in this book from about age 6 and I still pull it out to read it.

It went over everything, from the differences in shutter types, and how the popular cameras at the time worked. SLR's, Rangefinders, and TLR's.

I guess thats why I know so much about these old school cameras...I read that book so many times over.

Go to the section on Rangefinder. The last thumbnail on the right show just what it looks like when you focus with the focus patch.

You can also click where it says "Rangefinder Fascination" under the text on any of those sections to get to the focussing demo. It lets you pick different practice photos and lenses.

Had missed that section. That's a neat tool to let people see what a rangefinder is all about.

One for each focal length of the current lens production. Then you don't have to bother to change lenses.

However in Germany many Leica users have an Objektivwechsler with them. When shooting they just pass the body back to him for the change as he passes forward a preselected lens. In more scenic parts of Barvaria, some Objektivwechslers are in great demand because of their deep local knowledge of what lens should be used for the shot in a particular location.

So you could get by with 2 bodies and an Objektivwechsler.

Talk to your local Leica dealer for Leica certified Objektivwechslers in your area.
