I know some here have expressed interest in the Leica M8/8.2. Now might be the time to start watching RFF and L-Camera classifieds. The great 8 sell off has started to raise money for the M9. They are now at or below 2500 in some cases and many don't expect a bottom until 2000 or less.
If you think you want a digital Leica, the next few months may be the time to buy. I would expect in a year to start to see M8 prices climb once the M9 demand tapers off and people who were waiting for the M8 to get cheaper start coming into the market.

I have been keeping an eye out on the Leica forums. They look to be steady so far, but I imagine once the M9 becomes more available more M8/M8.2s will surface. I do shoot IR photos, so I am thinking an M8/M8.2 might be useful for that as well.

This will be interesting to watch. The prices of digital Ms have so far been holding better than most would have anticipated. The low prices that you are quoting are for M8s, the prices that I have seen for used M8.2s are all mid 3000s and above. (I'm interested because I have an M8.2 and, while I would like to keep it, would probably need to sell to be able to afford the jump to an M9!)

Will pass on the M9 and keep M8.
Might buy an M14 or M15 as a nice retirement gift to myself, 30 years from now (that is, if I haven't dropped dead yet and if I haven't been driven to extreme penury by that time)

What would be the advantages of having an M8.2 over a Canon 5D mark II?

I want the RF experience, smaller overall package, and the M8/M8.2 may be easier for me to pick up than a film one. It wouldn't replace my A900, just be an addition to the family.
