D80 Firmware update - 10-03-2009, 10:37 PM

Okay, so I just noticed that the firmware on my D80 is 1.01. I looked online to see what the latest Firmware for my camera is, and it's 1.11. I've never messed with the firmware, so I'm wondering if I need to update this on the camera?? I don't want to mess anything up. I didn't find much info in my manual, so I thought I would post to get some feedback from anyone who owns a D80 or a Nikon for that matter and is familiar with doing firmware updates.

thanks.

according to the page, it looks like this is the only thing affected:

Modifications enabled with upgrade of A and B firmware to 1.11

An issue that, in some rare circumstances, caused the battery indicator to blink, regardless of actual battery charge, has been resolved.

i actually had that happen to me for the first time when i was shooting pretty quick during the lingerie football game. kept having to turn my cam on and off. maybe i should load this before the next game...

I've done the upgrade firmware on my D70. The instruction from Nikon web site is very straightforward. Just make sure your battery is fully charged.

I waited a year after the 2.0 firmware released before I upgraded mine. I did experience some weird thing after the upgrade. The pre-set White Balance stops functioning and always shows “no good”. It only works on M mode. I had to take out the battery few times for it to start working correctly.

If you don’t feel comfortable doing it, I think you may ignore it.
