I don't know what grass those fred miranda folks are smoking but I'm happy with my 7D. I don't shoot sports like the rest of fine folks here but still, the results am getting are very satisfactory.

And I'm glad Andrew's 2nd copy is working fine for him, because at least the glitch is not universal.

LOL - Thanks! I shot a ton with the 7D at the NASCAR races the past 4 days and the Stars game Friday night. I am just now downloading all the images to review.

As far as "Axe grinding"... I found the IGNORE feature here a few weeks ago...

Honest question here...why are you shooting with the 7d over the the 1D3? What advantages does it have over the 1 series?

Also, and this is just speculation on my part, I've read the differences between the 1 series xxd cameras is the auto focus performance. I wonder if it physically a different set of parts, or if Canon just de-tunes them to raise the price on 1 series cameras. Seems like the lack of buying different build parts would make more sense from a manufacturing standpoint for Canon. At least of the Japanese are still steeped in lean manufacturing programs it would.

I don't use it instead of the 1D3.... I use it in addition to....
I got it as a secondary sports body in the interim and also wanted a 1.6x crop body with extra megapixels for more effective reach and cropability.

@Jim - No I haven't bothered with MA yet... I found that with my 1D3 MA didn't do a lot for me with zooms. I am using the 70-200 mostly at NHL games and at every focal length known to man... MA at the extremes didn't seem to help previously. I probably will try it with my Primes however. My 300L is set at -10 on my 1D3....
Andrew, you might try one notch to the right for the fast moving stuff. I had my 1DIII one notch to the left when I shot some HS volleyball earlier this year and had a lot of slightly oof shots. I moved it to right of middle, and the in focus percentage went way up. I concluded that at the slower rate it may not have been keeping up with the faster moving subjects.
