Anyone recommend paper cutter. - 11-11-2009, 04:22 PM

Hi there,

Not exactly camera equipment, but I was wondering if anyone can recommend a reasonably price paper cutter, either rotary or guillotine.

Obviously want to be able to cut photos with accuracy.

Thanks

Tony

my primary word of advise would be to make sure replacement blades are available (and to go ahead and get some). Paper is death to even hardened cutting edges.

Accurately? Rotatrim. For what it does, it's as reasonably priced as you're going to get.

Another vote for Rotatrim.

I agree. Rotatrim is the best, but the Dahle 550 paper cutter is another good alternative that costs less.

I was tempted to jump on this myself, but I must restrain myself...

My Rotatrim can also accurately and cleanly cut single weight mount board in addition to prints. I've also cleanly cut double weight mount board with it but that requires a lot of effort.

Considering the quality and lifetime investment, rotatrim is reasonably priced. Like any quality equipment it costs up front, but lasts forever. As you can probably guess, I have one and highly recommend it :-)

I have both a Dahle and a Rotatrim. The Dahle is very good and would probably be acceptable but the Rotatrim is clearly another step up in quality.

I wouldnt suggest cutting matte board with it as it will dull the edges faster.

But yes, Rotatrim is the win.

I have both a Dahle and an X-ACTO For evry day use I use with bigger prrints I use the Xacto. the Dahle for smaller prints. Either one works well. I have not had to replace the blades on ether of them. Cost about the same around $75.00

Just got a 24 inch Rototrim and it will trim even the thinnest slivers off the edge of a print and leave a neat clean edge every time.

Highly Recommend you spend a little more up front and not have to spend it again. And also get one larger than you think you will need, I have several less expensive cutters and they wound up being inadequate and too small for the print sizes I have been printing.
