Someone stop me... - 12-10-2009, 12:58 PM

I just bought a new 14-24mm and the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX today... and for some reason I keep finding myself continuously looking for a 17-35mm as well... which is kind stupid.

I really haven't even had time to play with the new 70-200mm VR II yet so I don't know when I'm going to have time for these other new goodies. Mr. Lorenzini swears by the 14-24mm so I was veritably obligated to purchase one.

Oh, this is hilarious, I got a phone call from Sigma4Less.com after placing the order... the standard "up sell" call. The guy says, "I see you're ordering the Nikon 14-24mm zoom lens. Do you have any filters for that? You should use filters on that lens." I said, "What? That lens' front element is aspherical. No filters exists for aspherical lenses that I'm aware of." To which he replied, "Oh, you're right. Nevermind." I should've just played along and let him hunt for some filters!

And if you haven't seen images from the Sigma 50mm on the D3* or D700, check out this awesome image taken by fellow TPF'er Todd Hargis:

I'm using them... but the holidays are just sucking my "free time" dry. I'm going to need a vacation just to recover from Christmas vacation. "Go put the Christmas lights on the house"... which I still haven't gotten to yet.

35-70 would make more sense than 17-35. Maybe.

Ha Ha!

I am starting to have the same problem. I just realized a couple of weeks ago that my Rebel XS would work with the lenses from my husband's Rebel EOS Rebel G, so I have claimed them as mine! lol! I think they some of these lenses are not from the higher end lenses that Canon makes. I would like a higher end 50mm lens and a Lensbaby 3G for Christmas.

Sir, put the credit card on the ground and step away from it slowly.

I'll be by to pick it up to get myself a new 70-200VRii and a D3x

Daniel:
I was looking at getting a D3X but I couldn't think of a reason to buy it. Unlike Jeff Kohn, I'm not (currently) doing anything that would require the extra megapixels.

Misti:
I was VERY cautious when considering the Sigma 50mm 1/4 over the new Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AF-S. But after reading and talking to other Nikon FX owners who use it, it was hard not to give it a try. Maybe that will make TWO Sigma lenses that I think don't completely stink (the other being the 120-300mm f/2.8).

Challenge yourself to create 100 outstanding images with the last lens you bought before you indulge in buying another one.

Paco,

That's a great idea. I doubt I would ever get to buy another lens if I did that!

Yes, Tamron makes a 28-105 F/2.8 but it's not a NICE one like the Canon. And Nikon makes a 28-105... but again, it's a variable aperture lens and not what I believe you're looking for. <-- Notice sentence ended in preposition!

Canon makes a consumer-grade 28-105 lens, too. It was the first lens I bought for my Canon film camera, and it wasn't awesome but was pretty good (at least for the price).

I have five lenses, use four of them some and two of them a lot.

I use two lenses on the D3; 24-70mm f/2.8G and 70-200mm f/2.8G VR I
I use two lenses on the H2; 150mm f/3.2 and 210mm f/4

I own two other Nikkor lenses and use them only very rarely (300mm f/2.8 AF-S II & 135mm f/2.0 AiS).

Having said that, if I count the number of Nikkor lenses that I've bought, tried, and sold over the last three years, I might be embarrassed. Let's just say it's more than 20 and leave it at that. After all that, for the photography I practice, two lenses seems to be all that I need. But clearly need and want are two different animals I might add the 14-24 and call it a day, but seriously for the money, I won't use it all that much.

Anyway, don't stop unless you need to. The economy needs you!
